"How lovely are the portals of the night, when the stars come out to watch the daylight die."
Thomas Cole

Appearance

Her ears are a too pointy, but not pointy enough. She's slender, toned, but never quite tall enough. She's not human enough and never quite fae enough.

Vespera is a half-fae, born to a human father and a fae mother. Neither of which bothered to stay around long enough to care for her. From her father, she inherited his height. In her new home, her once otherworldly beauty that hinted at her fae lineage seems so plain. Her skin is light, tainted by a faint moonlit glow. Her hair is long and platinum with silvery blue streaks that seem drawn out only under the night sky. Her eyes are a bright gold, reminiscent of the starry nights.

Her clothing choice is often practical for whatever her activity calls for. Often, she carries a weapon with her. Either a bow or a sword.

Skills and Abilities

  • Powerless
    • It was unfortunate. She inherited so much of her mother, but it appears that Vespera is completely and utterly powerless.

  • Weapons Training
    • Without magic, Vespera searched for other was to protect herself. She was trained in many weapons and fighting styles by trainers in Elderglen.

Personality

Despite being abandoned by both her human and fae parent, Vespera has become a rather harmonious blend of both heritages. She is adventurous, curious and empathetic, but at the same time carries herself gracefully, with an air of mystery that surrounds her. She is compassionate and kind, but if something disrupts the balance, she becomes fiercely protective and downright stubborn.

Biography & Lore

The Orphaned Half-Fae
Under the blood moon, a night imbued with power and myths of ominous fate, she was born. Nothing is known about her parents other than her father was a human and her mother was a fae from the moonlit glade. The baby was left alone in the dark woods, illuminated only by that unholy celestial body and the glow of her own golden eyes looking up at it.

Perhaps it was that very ominous fate which led Merenor, an old fae from the Elderglen to decide he wanted to walk that night. He swore he sensed a magical disturbance, but found nothing but a child. The cries of the infant attracted the attention of the elderly fae and he wasted no time in taking her in until someone claimed her. But no one ever did. No one seemed to have lost the little star he called Vespera.

The Starless Night
Merenor swore he sensed a latent power in the child, a sign of her mother's power, he presumed. Until his death, he made attempts to grow her power or pull forth what little she did have, but nothing ever came of it. Nothing aside from the way she seemed to visibly glow under the night sky. He was disappointed, never in Vespera, rather it was in himself. He was an infamous tutor of magic in the village after all, having spent thousands of years creating the strongest of mages.

He never gave up, spending his time emphasizing the importance of balance between her dual natures. Teaching her to harness the serenity of the night and the fierceness of a warrior. He had her trained in combat by the father of Rivain and Asher, instilling the discipline and skills she would need to defend herself against magic and weapons when she could only ever wield one.

After his death, Vespera had become quite withdrawn and chose to spend countless hours practicing, training alone under the night sky where she would perfect her abilities. Her resilience and determination did not go unnoticed by either of the boys or the villagers, who all agreed she was no longer that abandoned half-blooded child. She was a formidable protector of their people.

She prays to Mara every night, that she took Merenor quickly and that one day she can piece together the mystery of a life that keeps her up at night. So that one day, Merenor can smile down on her and guide her to the powers he believed lie dormant somewhere deep within her.
