Hailing originally from Oban, Fernando Matos studied at universities in Elbion, Alliria, and even Vel Anir. Being one of the middle sons of a prominent family provided him with enough wealth and a lack of opportunities to carve whatever path he wanted in his life. He chose academia and understanding the human psyche.
Eventually the man ended up in Vel Anir, working on a variety of social projects at a prominent school, when the revolution occurred. Gaining a reputation for helping the Guard and the new Republic better understand the thought processes of citizens in trauma after the governmental overthrow he was eventually contracted for a new job.
Assigned as a Special Proctor for the Dreadlord Academy his mission is easily stated but difficult to accomplish. Ensure that the next few crops of students don’t come out of the academy as blood thirsty sociopaths.
Appearance
Fernando keeps a clean look with short reddish-orange hair and a neatly trimmed beard. His attire is almost always fanciful, buttoned up shirts and vests which have been perfectly fitted by one of his tailors.

Due to Fernando’s complete lack of martial prowess or magical talent he was immediately assigned two Dreadlord bodyguards who had proven themselves as heroes of the revolution. Katya and Corbin accompany him at all times when on the academy’s campus despite Fernando’s insistence that it’s unnecessary. In his words, “my students love me, they’d never cause me harm!”
Biography
Since his youth the young Matos possessed an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. More than that, he possessed an indomitable spirit of cooperation and teamwork which has made him a valued member of many university research teams.
After leaving his home in Oban he set off to Elbion where he mastered his studies before taking on a new role and furthering his education at the prestigious Ravengrowth University in Alliria. Eventually he grew tired of the city of Alliria and made his way to Vel Anir for a chance to better understand their pro-humanist beliefs and found himself taking a liking to the locale.
Post-Revolution he spent the initial year working with the Guard and the new Republic on promotional campaigns and speechwriting to help assuage the average citizen to the stability of the new government that was being established. Many in this government felt that his writing directly helped prevent civil unrest in parts of the Republic.
Eventually, he was approached with a new task. Getting through to the poor children of the Dreadlords Academy and helping them process their feelings in a healthy way. Ensure that they truly could understand concepts like empathy and not committing mass murder once they graduated.
Lore
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Proctor Harkenov hissed.
“Not at all,” Guard Captain Grealish said, sipping on his glass of wine, “in the morning he’ll arrive. First seminars will be with the younger kids, easier to reach… you know, build up his confidence. We’ll do the upper classes in a week or so.”
Harkenov sneered at the man, she’d come into his office hoping it had all been rumors and whispers. Now it appeared to be fact. “Ridiculous. A man who has no combat skill, no magic, was never a Dreadlord, and spent his entire adult life studying or teaching is going to come and work with the Initiates?” Harkenov scoffed, “what is he going to teach them? How to read?”
The trainees were already literate. Well, most of them anyway.
“No, no, it won’t be an academic course.” Grealish seemed relaxed and unphased by Harkenov’s demeanor. Perhaps it was because he disliked her.
“What then!? What is he here to accomplish?”
The Guard Captain sat down his glass and raised an eyebrow at the woman before him, “the report says he’s going to teach them to love themselves.”
He was actually as baffled as Harkenov, though he refused to show it.
