Appearance

Cari is a pretty lamb of a girl.
She's very thin to the point of anorexia, she has a delicate look about her as if a strong wind could blow her over.
Her brown hair is cut short, her brown eyes are doe-like and always glancing about like a frightened rabbit.

Her face is lightly freckled and her expression is one of innocence.
She dresses conservatively, but while she does have a sense of decency she doesn't seem to remember how clothes work.

Skills, Traits & Weaknesses

Personality

Cari is... Not right in the head. She often talks to herself or people who aren't there, she is furtive and nervous, especially around large groups of people.

Due to her trauma she's developed several ticks. Her posture is closed and withdrawn, her arms kept close to her body and her shoulders drawn in protectively.

She reacts and interacts with the real world, sometimes even in logical or reasoning ways, but the lines between fantasy and reality have all but vanished for her, stuck in the events of her own little world inside her mind.
Talking to or referencing voices in her head, seeing people or things that aren't actually there.

When she's stressed she recesses, covering her ears, humming in distress, tapping her temples, scratching at a spot at the base of her skull or scratching nervously at her arms and legs.
She sometimes reacts explosively, and sometimes violently, but it's all in a fear reaction to ward off some perceived threat and she'll usually end up whimpering and cowering in a corner.

She's completely helpless in the world, innocent and unable to process the dangers and she cannot operate independently.

Biography

Cari's village once sat at the edge of the Reach near the foothills of the Spine mountain range.
It was a nice rustic place, with farming and subsistence lifestyles, life was simple and people did what they could to get by.

Her village no longer exists except as a ruin. It was attacked by monsters out of the Spine, a horde of insect like beasts that came down like a tide, they washed through her village, killing all who resisted and carrying them off back to their hive in the Spine.

Cari was one of the few not killed. After watching her friends and family die she was brought to the hive on the broad back of one of the beasts.
Many strange types of creatures worked in this hive, and she was brought to one that used tools that were actually living creatures themselves.

Cari tried begging, tried to communicate with them, but they paid her words no heed and her screaming even less.
They experimented on her, probed her, injected her with various substances... Until they achieved their goal.

It was like waking up to a new reality, Cari was suddenly aware of everything, every creature in the hive, she could feel what they felt, hear what they thought, see what they saw... It was beautiful...
But suddenly the hive was attacked, the dead flooded the hive and necrotic magic burned away the bugs... When the necromancer found her lying on the table he used his magic to kill the cast, to tear her mind away from the hivemind... An act that both saved her, and permanently broke her mind.
To be aware of every mind in the swarm was quite a feat in itself without losing her mind, but to suddenly be confined again to a single awareness after experiencing such freedom... Cari Greenstand couldn't endure the strain and she broke.

The necromancer left her at the nearest village where non would have anything to do with her. And so she just... Existed, surviving only because the local temple took pity on her and would feed her twice a day.
Eventually someone put her on a wagon with a caravan and sent her off.
Cari simply drifted, the whispers of the hivemind stayed with her, but reality was shattered for her.
