Born to a middle-class family (father a merchant and mother a book binder), Aldrae enjoyed a comfortable childhood, much of which she spent in her parent's small book shop. She picked up on reading very early, which her family jokingly blames for her shy and apparently aloof attitude towards others - an attitude that has made her fit right into the college of Elbion.

She was ecstatic to be accepted into the college when she was 14, but she never showed any particular aptitude for the arcane beyond the casting of a few cantrips. She became highly fascinated with the idea of extra-dimensional krypobiology and studied it for a few years, but dismissed the field (at least publicly) after receiving a great deal of scathing feedback from the academic community. Many of her colleagues and teachers still see her ideas as fringe, perhaps even a bit crazy, but she remains mostly a part of the college as a slightly-disgruntled assistant (see occupation).

When she was 21, Aldrae was struck by lightning during an unusually powerful storm. Miraculously she survived, but she still carries a jagged scar down the left side of her body... and some strange powers she didn't have before the incident. There's more to this story, but she tries to keep her 'talents', and the strange circumstances around them, to herself.

Aldrae isn't the type of person who puts a lot of effort into her appearance. For one, because she feels she is very average to look at to begin with, and secondly because she is usually too absorbed in a story or reference book to waste time on such trivial aesthetic practices. Her somewhat long, brown hair is usually barely brushed and kept in a messy ponytail. She dresses conservatively, keeping to basic robes when she's working at the college and comfortable travel clothes in the rare times she's conducting field work. She's very near-sighted and wears spectacles in order to see.

Basic Spellcasting: Aldrae can cast a few small, helpful spells that I'm definitely stealing from DnD because I'm actually a giant nerd.

Light: conjures a small orb of light to light up dark places
Mage Hand: For grabbing things at a distance, politely
Message: can send a short telepathic message to a target within 120 ft, if she knows their location and they allow it
Mending: can mend broken non-magical objects
Minor Illusion: creates small illusions to annoy people. The reason that all good wizards make sure the chair is real before trying to sit in it.

Blessing of the Storm: Powers that manifest apparently randomly for future story reasons.

Aldrae presents herself as a shy, introverted individual with more of an affinity for books than people, but she loves a good story and is somewhat of a hopeless romantic at heart. She's intelligent and thoughtful, but she likes to keep that to herself in order not to get destroyed by the great egos of Elbion.
