Kestrel is of medium height and build, standing lithe as all elves tend to be though her shortened ears betray her as of mixed lineage. Her black hair is cut in a short bob, always tousled like she cares but not quite enough to actually style it. She has large, bright purple eyes that always seemed to be creased by her perpetual amusement at… well, everything. She wears a mix of leathers and regular clothing, all well-worn and certainly not new, but well-cared for. She usually appears unarmed, except for the two large daggers strapped across her back under her cloak, only the handles visible over her shoulders.

Kestrel is an infiltration and acquisitions specialist -- a thief. A damn good thief, if she does say so herself. She is light of foot and extremely agile, her skills honed by lifetime of living on the street. She is a master pickpocket and often entertains the other members of her gang with her sleight of hand “magic tricks”. She is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, though her style lends itself to quick or sneak attacks and she's not as strong in long, drawn out fights.

Magic does seem to flow in her, though she is untrained, in the form of being able to cloak or camouflage herself for short periods of time. In addition, when she 'hides', as she calls it, it makes it difficult for magic to target her or affect her the way it is intended. For example, a spell targeting her may lose track of her when 'hiding' and sweeper spells may not detect that she is there. The invisibility drains her energy, but there is also a feeling of euphoria that accompanies it. If she isn't careful, she can get "lost" in the euphoria and essentially get caught in her hiding until she passes out or is otherwise forced out of it.

Kestrel is confident and brave to the point of brash, strong-willed, and determined. She has a survivor’s streak a mile wide, meaning she’s not afraid to ‘play dirty’ or lie or deceive to get herself out of sticky situations. She is incredibly guarded, usually playing off a cocky or smart-assed remarks to keep distance between herself and others. Despite this outer somewhat prickly shell, she is incredibly loyal to those that she is fond of and a staunch ally.

Kestrel never knew her father, and has only the barest memories of her mother, a tough woman who worked as a scullery maid for one of the local merchants. Since her mother was gone all day, Kes grew up running the streets with other children her age. Her mother tried to get Kes to learn a trade or get an education, but Kestrel was energetic, flighty, and unconcerned with scholarly pursuits.

Unfortunately, Kestrel was barely ten years old when her mother grew sick and passed away. The merchant her mother had worked for wasted no time in kicking Kestrel out, leaving her on the streets. She struggled for a time, but eventually fell in with one of the criminal organizations in the Shallows, the Crimson Moon, led by a mysterious man named Drendor. With her natural grace and agility, her survivor’s streak, and the ability she has to ‘blend’ into surroundings, she rapidly proved herself a capable and skilled thief. Unfortunately, her stubbornness and inability to take orders prevented her from advancing through the ranks of the syndicate. Perpetually stuck between being the organization’s shining star and the biggest thorn in its side, Kestrel nevertheless somehow always managed to survive… so far.
