Portrait de Paul Victor Grandhomme by Raphaël Collin

Yøren is a net maker and fisher in the small town of Grenil, east of the peninsulas. Each day, he woke before the sun and walked to the warf, where he would fish with the others of his village until the evenings. His passion is chronicling and learning tales from far and wide. As he learned the art of knot work, he learned too to sing the stories of his village and worked on committing the remembrances of the old to tunes.

When he reached his of five and twentieth summer, he decided to set out, first along the coast where he could trade his craft for room and board. His great desire is to travel the world and learn its stories and, upon witnessing scribes which Grenil lacked, to learn his letters to stick fast those stories to the page.

Appearance

Tall, with broad coarse hands and gaunt face, Yøren can be physically imposing at first sight, but he movement and speach belies a gentle manner. His clothing is patched, and his cloak is a travel-stained grey. He travels only with a stripped pine branch for a walking staff, a small pack with bed-roll affixed, and a small boning knife on his hip.

Skills and Abilities

Yøren is physically quite strong and a master of knot work. He is a capable tracker and weather watcher. While he is passable as a pugilist, he has little experience with any weapon grander than a dagger and knows next-to-nothing of sorcery and magics.

As for the arts, he is a writer and a steady singer, capable of accompanying himself with the spoons or the kantele. He does decorative braiding and knotting, primarily with eel leathers. He cannot read or write.

Personality

Yøren is cautious but open. He speaks gladly to anyone with a story to tell, but trusts few. He considerers theological, philosophical, and political conversations on regional scales beyond his measure, but can speak passionately on daily ethics and virtues. Insatiably curious, he tries to look under every leaf and hear as many versions of a story as he can.
