Wilhelm was the last of the Queen and King's children to be born. Almost ten years after their eldest, Wil was considered a surprise miracle by his parents. However, due to their age and the more pressing matters of state they did not have as much time to pay attention to the youngest as they had to their other children. Their guilt coupled with their attention being spent on more pressing things or his older siblings afforded Wil a unique type of freedom his older siblings never got.

Wilhelm was, in short, a terror.

From the age he was able to walk Wil escaped nurses, governesses and guards alike to cause mischief in the Palace. Buckets of water above ajar doors, trip wires, the old salt and sugar switch - Wil was the King of Pranks. A title he gave to himself after one particular prank turned all the guards uniforms a ghastly shade of pink for a week much to the cleaners exasperation. However, his favourite target was always his older siblings. They being much older than he never really wanted to spend time on childish games and so the pranks became Wil's way of forcing his siblings into his own games.

One year, at the age of nine, Wil planned his biggest prank yet on his older sister, Kizzie. Wearing a mask from the Hallows Eve event he had stolen off one of the stable lads, Wil jumped out in front of her with a thunderous roar. He had been intending only to make her scream - perhaps wet herself - but instead what happened next altered both their lives. Glass exploded everywhere, showering them both in tiny, knife-sharp pieces. It didn't take either child long to realise who had caused said explosion.

The next few weeks were a flurry of panic in the royal palace that went almost entirely over Wil's head aside from that fact he knew he was in Big Trouble. Eventually he was told his punishment was to be sent away with his sister to the far East and a creepy school he had never heard of before. Wilhelm was furious and terrified but despite pleading with his parents there was nothing he could do. He left at the head of his sisters 'honour guard' with a glum expression never expecting to see home again.

When the pair arrived at Althaven Wilhelm discovered he would not even be allowed to stay with his sister but instead would live in a town a few miles away with the rest of the guard. Nothing more than a market town to support the school, Wilhelm discovered there were in fact worse places than the Anirian Palace to live. Wil therefore grew up under the unwatchful eye of one grizzled guardsman; Egror. Egror, bluntly, cared very little about what the Prince did as long as he didn't get himself killed.

Bored, aimless and still harbouring a simmering anger for his family for basically exiling him Wil fell in with the wrong kind of crowds. From a young age he begun to test his strengths and ability to sneak, and began a petty string of crimes as a way to pass time. He amassed quite a small trove of treasures which he used for his next addiction; dice. Then cards. Then Smokes as he grew older. He drank, he gambled, and continued to rob when the boredom got so bad even the drink couldn't dull it. He ended up making quite the reputation for himself as a frivolous Prince which only made him more bitter.

After an argument with his old mentor Egror where the old man claimed Wilhelm was a bad mark against the Anireth name, Wilhelm decided to prove him wrong by committing his best heist yet: robbing Althaven. In the dark depths in a locked jewellery box Wil found a dark ring that would forever change his life...

The Ring of Haath

proxy.php

The Ring of Haath has had many wearers over the years. Some the greatest sorcerers that have walked the earth, some the darkest. From each wearer the ring has extracted a spell, a slice of their soul, which it has stored away like a hoarding dragon. In return it amplified and strengthened its wearers gifts.

Many believed this to be the only benefit of the Ring which in itself makes it a coveted prize. However nobody before has unlocked that the ring stores these spells and that the right user can in fact wield them for their own devices.

As each spell is stolen from a different mage, so is the cost of magic. This makes using the ring volatile and incredibly hard to control. But the ring also hungers for something from its wearer and the more it is worn the more it takes...
