Appearance

Vul'koroth is a monster, tried and true. Every fiber of his being was plucked from nightmares of the ancient humanoids upon the world. A towering being made for battle and slaughter, this creature was hand crafted by an ancient and evil mind. Thick, strong chitin plates cover this creature, offering it degrees of protection nearly unheard of in the natural world, harder than steel but naturally grown and repaired. Flesh covered in bone like armor as well, protecting vital organs hidden deeply within the body.

Four arms are upon this beast to boot, but to call them proper arms would do them a disservice at best. The two upper most limbs have a clawed thumb like form, the rest of the 'hand' is a massive scythe, with an edge that carries an almost magical keen edge. The lower arms are like that found with a crab, massive and powerful claws. Chitin spikes protect the areas not normally used for killing.

Two powerful legs support this monster of the dark, allowing high rates of mobility, and a long, heavy tail extends from the rear of this beast, providing proper counter balance. Two deadly spines rest on the end of this tail as well, simply providing him with 360 degree killing potential.

His head is the most interesting. Teeth like knives jut out from his jaw, but several are missing, along with a single eye and tissue from that side of his face. It appears some form of powerful magic was used to burn away the flesh, but what ever it was, the spell has long since been lost to the ravages of time, and only Vul'koroth knows what really happened.

Skills and Abilities

Hive Mind: The Swarm can communicate telepathically with each other for a hundred mile radius. The Swarm Weird has the benefit of hindsight, they are able to see the stored memories of other weird who have failed before them and learn from their mistakes.

Active Adaptation: By consuming the flesh of a creature or consuming genetic material into their system their body will take the most beneficial genetic codes from the material and add it to the code of the Weird. They adapt to magical fire the same way they adapt to natural fire, and it follows with other spells and magic as well.

Passive Adaptation: They are very biologically adaptive creatures, when placed in hostile environments such as fire or ice their bodies automatically begin adapting defenses against them, such as flame retardant secretions or heat shielding chitin, or quickly growing thicker fur coats or adapting their muscles to naturally create more heat.

Regeneration: Vul'koroth himself is a bit of an oddity. While he can consume the flesh of creatures to continue to sustain his being, he normally does not need to in order to heal. His body will naturally regenerate itself so long as at least a fist sized chunk of him remains behind and untouched. The rate at which he heals is set by the amount needing to be replaced. From a handful of flesh to fully restored will take several days, but something smaller will be healed far faster.

Weaknesses:
Passive Adaptation: If the environment changes quickly enough the Weird will not be able to adapt in time before they expire.

Monsters: Who would want to pet something with claws, spines, and rows of sharp teeth and evil eyes that look at you like you're the main course?

Achilles Heel:Due to the nature of natural armor it is possible to find a weak point in their shell. His armor is not perfect, nor is so strong it cannot be bypassed.

Missing Eye: Despite the healing effects that take place upon the body of Vul'koroth, he has been unable to regenerate the damage done to the side of his face or heal his missing eye. As such, he had a weak point there, as well as a blind spot, however it does not seem to effect his ability to strike foes within melee or at a range.

Personality

Vul'koroth is an ancient being, and while he is often considered to be savage and cold by those who in history had seen him, he is simply carrying out the overriding mission within his mind... To bring all under the heel of the Hivemind. Flesh must be consumed to add it's mass to the swarm, and allow them to become one with path to perfection.

In battle, Vul'koroth is a melee warrior, and relishes it. Everything about being in combat fills him with strength, and as a warlord, he still leads beings into the fray. Thanks to the telepathic bond he shares with his warriors, he is better able to direct them from the front lines. If met with him, do not expect your death to be clean... It will be instant, but probably not clean at all.

Biography & Lore

First off the bat, what is known in the lore of this creature is locked within the depths of the Hivemind itself. There have only been reports of a monstrous beast in ages past, a towering hulk leading monsters of nightmare into the battle. Something happened to him however, and he simply became an ancient legend from a time lost to history.

In truth, Vul'koroth was not made like others are made. Most are simply plucked from the biomass pods and made into what they need to be. Vul'koroth simply tore free from the pod that he was in, hand crafted by the Hivemind itself and set to be a herald upon the world for what would be the fate of all. The standard life cycle and mental hang ups of the Swarm do not apply to this monster, as he is a leader of soldiers, a slayer of enemies, and most of all, a thinker. Though his mental processes would be considered alien at best to any one who could look within his mind, they are there. He is not mindless.

For centuries however, he had laid dormant under the Forbidden City, feral and wild when he returned to awareness, but always drifting back to sleep. Now, something, or someone, has caused him awaken, and his mind has been restored, with new clarity and focus unlike anything before...
