Vrak'mul is an ancient sorcerer who bound himself to his tower in the Blightlands to tether a demon. He has lodged this demon within himself, keeping it locked in his withered flesh to stop it from wreaking havoc across Arethil. But it is only a matter of time before it breaks loose . . . And Vrak'mul must find a new, willing host. Or something capable of destroying it.

Appearance

Looking like a mummifed husk, Vrak'mul moves with a strange, alien grace, his motions precise and full of intent. He can sit still for days, in astral projection or trance, reaching out beyond his confines.

Skills and Abilities

+ Amortal. So long as Vrak'mul can feed on souls, time is no enemy.

+ Withering touch. Flesh shrivels and enters necrosis before his touch, making his hands deadly weapons.

+ Dark magic. Vrak'mul has plunged into many a tome of forbidden lore, dappling with unspeakable forces. His spells often radiate with a nauseating grey light, draining all colour around him.

+ Enduring willpower. Vrak'mul has resisted the influence of the demon bound within him for centuries.

+ Taste in art. To busy himself and strenghten his resolve, Vrak'mul has gathered an impressive art collection over the centuries.

- Locked in a tower. Vrak'mul's binding of this archdemon is dependent on the intricate spider web of runes and magic circles he has invested in his tower. Should he ever leave the tower, the demon would likely destroy him.

- Growing madness. The demon has gradually torn at his psyche for a long time. His sanity is slipping.

- Midas touch. Most things he touches, decays. Even textiles, cloth, wood and other material of organic origin.

- Dependent on souls. Unfortunately, Vrak'mul's phylactery is a magic item of great hunger. It requires regular sacrifice of souls to maintain. He gains these mainly by luring unwary travellers or adventurers into his tower.

Personality

Sometimes, a lesser evil is necessary to curb a greater one. While Vrak'mul is certainly cruel, malicious and merciless, the demon within him is even worse. He hasn't bound the demon so much from a concern for the living as for a promise he made, long ago.
