Vilen Blackhart
Appearance
Delicate in composition, with long lashes and a soft face, Vilen is often mistaken for a woman at a distance. The illusion is broken the moment he opens his mouth, voice low and crackling. His pointy teeth, big, rounded ears, and red eyes create a visage that is just shy of human. The horns atop his head are small but hard to miss, tipped coal black against the ashen silver of his wispy hair. He has a long, thin tail with a barbed end reminiscent of a fire poker.
Skills and Abilities
Fire's Light. Due to his nature, Vilen has an affinity for fire. He is resistant to flames, both of the magical and ordinary variety. He cannot create a spark from nothing, but he can bolster an existing flame. This ability is inconsistent, and the hotter flames tend to fizzle out more quickly after he's tampered with them.
Minor Magic. Under the tutelage of the Knights of Anathaeum, Vilen has picked up some rudimentary spells often taught to young squires. He is not an accomplished mage-knight, and will break concentration in high stakes situations.
Forward Scout. Observant and with decent intuition, Vilen is a skilled tracker in both urban and wild environments.
Minor Magic. Under the tutelage of the Knights of Anathaeum, Vilen has picked up some rudimentary spells often taught to young squires. He is not an accomplished mage-knight, and will break concentration in high stakes situations.

Personality
A chronic complainer, and impulsive to boot. Errs on the side of pessimism, but he is the embodiment of all bark and no bite. It doesn't take much to convince him to help out with something.
Biography & Lore
There's an old folk tale in the Allir Reach that goes like this:
If one leaves their baby next to the fire unattended, and it breathes in a stray spark, then the spirit of the hearth can take up residence inside and burn through the baby. What's left of the beloved child is an ash demon - a reckless, tragic creature cursed to chase its own fiery desires without the temperance of a human heart.
There is, of course, a more substantial reason why sometimes children are born with horns and pointy teeth and a resistance to fire. Vilen doesn't seem to care about finding his true origins. He is what his family made him: a child lost to recklessness, mourned well into adulthood.
It was not until he found himself lodged at the Astenvale Monastery, that Vilen saw a glimpse of a better life. The monastery's teaching stuck in his head, and since he didn't have much else going on, Vilen swore some oaths and became a Knight of Dusk. Though the more noble pursuits are sometimes lost on him, the direction knighthood brings seems to be good for Vilen.
