Biography & Lore

Valerian has spent most her life hidden away in the Spine, where some of her race remained low profile and away from the greed of others that sought their angelic wings.

As she got older, Valerian chose the path of a warrior. She wanted to be capable of defending herself if needed. She refused to be weak and vulnerable.

Valerian's mother represented the Hunter within the council, so getting her the discipline she needed wasn't an impossible task. But it did make Valerian's life a strict one.

But of course, everyone needs to have at least one rebellious stage.

Valerian eventually grew bored of being caged away during her training, she desired to experience more of the world, even if her mother refused to hear of it. So of course. . that is what she did.

Valerian explored the world while hiding her real self, fully aware of the dangers that lurked for the Avariel race. She explored the many pleasures and delights that could be offered. From the potent elixirs that intoxicated oneself, and the feelings of being vulnerable and in love with another. Valerian fell in love with a mortal man.

She visited the mortal every other fifth night and exchanged many wonderous things, sugar-coated words, and secrets that should have been left unspoken. Such a thing would have indeed unsettled her mother, but her mother never knew. Not now and not ever.

For her love wasn't destined to last forever. Even though Avariels believed in loving one within their lifetime, humans were hardly capable of doing such. Her mortal boy had other plans in place that Valerian wasn't aware of.

He wanted what most others sought after. The glamorous wings that each Avariel bore from their back. And he intended to get it by putting Valerian to sleep.

But his plan didn't go as it meant to. And with that, the love between them speared at her heart like a lightning bolt. Valerian was shaken with rage and hurt, and she chased the mortal off for good.

That is when Valerian developed a hatred for mortals. She was unable to end his life, but vowed to never trust a mortal again. Their fragile lives made them liars, greedy, and incapable of love.

That is what she believed.
