Valborast Valchek
Arrogant, yet exceptional, cruel in his humour, yet utilitarian to his fellow man and knight, fostered by an immortal family yet now brother in arms to the noble and just, Valborast is a man who drinks deep from the darkest of upbringings yet eats from the table of the honourable. His skill with a blade is as cruel and swift as a drow's, his steel akin to the glimmer of reflected sunlight in a pit of darkness, all wounds caused either sealed at once or endlessly encouraged to bleed the foe to exhaustion. His talents and understanding of magic come from the vampiric upbringing he experienced and the weapons, skills and techniques he studied to vanquish the immortals to own himself, despite the wishes of the vampire family he left behind. Thoroughly mortal, yet with the affectations, inflections, scope of ambition and willingness to accept attrition of mortal and immortal alike, Valborast has carved a begrudging respect from his fellow knights as a master of the blade, expert on vampires and the skills they employ, and weaver of all manner of guiles.
Many speak ill of him, yet few are able to match him in combat, and if so, his own wits in self preservation prevents his own doom. The manner in which he toys with his foes stands dangerously between arrogant jest in his tests and cruelty for the sake of defeating banality in every parry, thrust and bloody stroke that might wound and seal, or cleave and bleed out a hapless foe for facing Valborast in battle, duel, or sport. A dangerous foe, and a wicked ally to the Knights of Anatheaum, he is pledged to serve, and serve he does, without much care for the disapproval and rejection from higher positions he might have attained if humility were his byword, solidarity his shield, and justice his sword. Instead, darkness is his confidant, wine his salve, shadows and guile his armour, and pride that spills over into dangerous arrogance the hallmark sign of one Valborast Valchek. He is a writer of many guides on the vampire menace which many find too sympathetic to the plight of vampires, yet cannot deny it's truthfulness in how to end them, and for this alone he is tolerated amongst the knightly, to say nothing of his effectiveness in combat to bring down a foe as humanely as possible, if such a term can be used for such a mocking opponent such as Valborast.
Appearance
Typically dressed in deep burgundy or crimson heavily embroidered robes over hardened leather armour, aside from a red breastplate which carries depictions in white of reptilian creatures. The silk material shifts in tone to more dark sanguine and purple as it reaches his lower half. Silk wraps lovingly around most of his frame concealing his footfalls, and a cutlass is at his hip at all times, which is nestled within a scabbard encrusted in small rubies. His black hair is marked by white streaks, and his ashen face is adorned with a goatee.
Skills and Abilities
Master of the Cutlass : Wildly theatrical in his cuts which serve to confuse and waylay an opponent, Valborast excels in one in one combat and duels. Even without arcane assistance, he would prove a deadly foe, being trained by vampire sword masters during his upbringing, but with the aid of his ability over the sanguine, small cuts become deeper problems for a foe, should Valborast be in a mood to exsanguinate.
Adept at Knives and Daggers : Although rare, Valborast has been known to use daggers in conjunction to his cutlass to disarm foes and to deliver slashing cuts during opportune moments. He also carries a few throwing knives that he can command to return to him after a short time after throwing them. These are nestled upon his person amongst his robes for easy access.
Magic of the Vampire: While not a vampire himself, Valborast has learned from their arcane tombs and practitioners of the dark arts, granting him a few key skills. The primary skill which he employs is command over blood, to cause wounds to refuse to bleed in himself or others, or causing great bleeding from wounds he does inflict. Secondary skills include being able to turn into mist, although this is a highly taxing ability, and the command over shadows to conceal himself, as well as the ability to increase his own reactions and speed.
Magic of the Sunlit Blade: Valborast is able to command sunlight into his weapon so that it might burn and antagonize vampiric foes. While he is able to command the vampiric magics with ease and full capacity, this magic is far more taxing and requires complete concentration to perform. While others might be able to command great beams of sunlight or to wreath their weapon in light, Valborast creates shimmers of sunlight that cause irritation and promised searing pain to those undead it would strike. A true paladin would call such skills amateurish in the cause of smiting foes, but Valborast is able to command sunlight upon his weapons in a small measure that was vital to his expropriation from the undead.
