Ulfberht Swords
Summary of Common Knowledge
Fame: Renowned Weapons
Ulfberht swords have a strong place in many stories throughout history, but are often considered the minimum for exceptional blades. Exceptionally rare, there currently exists only a few hundred items forged from the ingots as the secrets to forging new ones have been lost to time - though it is said some still hold the secrets to their construction, albeit hidden away in tomes or minds ancient.
Known for never dulling, tarnishing, or chipping - Ulfberht swords do not bend, making them extremely easy to cut with. Their patterns are unique to each, carrying a variety of colors interlaced with one another. Interlaced within that pattern is deep and ancient magics infused by hammer and anvil during its creation - as to why it is lost to how one can make new swords of such quality. Despite that, they have been known to be reforged under the careful watch of master craftsmen and mages.
Magically, the weapons are nigh on impervious - known to have survived mountain collapses in dwarven holds with not even a scratch. That is the more mundane variety of the blades, while the most notorious have been known to sheer metal by virtue of their infused edge - like butter some have said. Due to their ease, and extraordinary material properties, they are extremely sought after by those of great renown and wealth.
Most notably, the nobility of Vel Anir has been known to utilize these blades with great success, some even forming the basis for the symbolage of their houses.
