Skills and Abilities
- Novice Mourner: Like most who don the ghost mail, Tristan has a rudimentary set of powers granted to him by the bonded spirit residing within his armor. Enhanced speed and a sort of sixth sense for the presence of undead are the baseline, but more abilities may come with time.
- Swordsman: Tristan has a good grasp on swordplay, and likes to fight with a pair of blades (a shorter one in the offhand).
- Scavenger: Having come from nothing, Tristan and his brother had long since figured out how to survive on whatever was available and how to dig through trash to find treasure.
Personality
Reserved, self-reliant, dutiful, and a bit distant. Getting Tristan to open up is difficult. He likes to be helpful, but hates to be helped.
Biography & Lore
Born into poverty and obscurity in Tirnua, brothers Fane and Tristan Locke were raised by destitute parents, eking out what life they could by stealing, scavenging, and trading in the town among the ruins. From an early age the brothers began to tell each other stories of their own fabrication, tales of more fantastical lives across the furthest reaches of the world. They dreamed of escaping the meager existence they had inherited and striking out together.
As any trade hub does, however, Tirnua deals in rumors just as much as goods. As teenagers, Fane and Tristan first heard of the Isle of Phorasmos, a lost civilization with a city brimming with danger and treasure. To them, it sounded perfect. Tired of living in squalor, the boys gathered their things and slipped away from their parents, eager to hunt for wealth and adventure.
The trek was hard, but nothing could have prepared the boys for what they faced on the isle. The locals of Parumora warned them of the death that awaited the boys deeper into the borders of Phorasmos, but they would not listen. Seeing that they could not be convinced otherwise, a spiritsmith gave them each a spirit vessel and wished them safe travels.
At first, the boys only prodded at the ruined border towns, gathering what they could just as they had in Tirnua. In time, however, their ambitions got the better of them. The duo delved into Obelus, and it was here that disaster struck. Tristan will not speak of precisely what happened that day, only that his survival is either some form of miracle or curse.
It was the Mourners that stumbled upon Tristan and what remained of Fane, hidden away within Obelus. They recovered him as well as Fane's body and returned both of them to Parumora. Wracked with guilt and the pain of loss, Tristan vowed to stay on Phorasmos and train to become a Mourner. He claims he seeks revenge for what took his brother from him all those years ago, but only Tristan knows whether that's true.
