Tierciel Saraneth
Tierciel is a necromancer who, following in the footsteps of his mother, works to keep the dead in death. Contrary to most necromancers, who seek to raise the dead as servants or other means to power, Tierciel works to maintain the balance of life and death and to ensure that the natural order is not disturbed. He travels the world, binding the dead and attempting to right the wrongs caused by them.
Appearance
Tierciel is a man of average height and slight build. He has jet black hair which cuts a striking contrast to his white skin, drained of all color by his many forays into death. His eyes are so dark brown that they may as well be black, too. He wears an emerald green surcoat over a light interlinking scalemail shirt and thick brown trousers. He has sturdy yet supple boots and a fine leather belt upon which hangs a leather scabbard.
Tierciel’s most noticeable accessory is the bandolier of bells he wears across his chest. Dark, fine leather with seven pockets containing the seven bells of increasing size. At his waist is a long, silver sword, with runes emblazoned down the blade.

Skills and Abilities
Tonal Necromancy:
Tierciel can raise, control, and banish dead spirits and beings. The only real distinguishing feature of tonal necromancy is the use of sound to do so. Tierciel utilizes a set of seven bells, each with a distinct function, to interact with the dead (and to a much lesser effect, living beings). When unable to use the bells, whistling, clapping, and singing can substitute, but the magic is much more difficult to do this way.
Tierciel is able to cast his own spirit into death at will, and will often do so to interact with dead beings and spirits that are only partially in life. When his spirit is in death his living body is paralyzed and cold. Freezing mist emanates from him, and ice crystals will usually form on the body and nearby water is often frozen.
Rune Magic:
In addition to necromancy, Tierciel is a gifted rune mage. By recalling, tracing, and sometimes drawing runic symbols he is able to cast a variety of spells. His repertoire includes moderate elemental magic (fire, lightning, and ice) and protective wards. He also uses what he refers to as “quality of life” spells, examples being keeping oneself warm in the cold, or generating a light for dark places.
Tierciel’s sword is enchanted with runes and is extremely destructive to dead and undead beings and spirits, often causing wounds that burn with white fire. To the living it may as well be plain steel.

Personality
Tierciel was brought up to be polite, analytical, and thoughtful. He prefers not to speak without fully developing his thoughts. The nature of his work and the details of his arts are generally kept secret, as he does not wish the knowledge to fall into the wrong hands. Nevertheless he is not unfriendly, and has been known to travel with a partner or two from time to time. In general, though, he works alone by necessity.
