The Vampir

The Vampir

Biographical information
Allir Reach Quite old. (Estimated to be over two centuries of age) Though he has traveled far and wide, Konrad's favorite corner of the world is The Spine. He enjoys its remoteness and the fact that most of it is relatively untouched by human influence. Here he dwells inside a stretch of underground tunnels he himself built.

There, he schemes and carries out numerous magical tests in an effort to improve upon the capabilities of his "incomplete" body.
Physical description
Formerly a human, currently a vampire. Konrad mixed and tweaked various strains of vampirism before infecting himself with the resulting mixture, thus becoming a vampire. In certain aspects, he's different from other vampires, chiefly due to the nature of his affliction, which he carefully manufactured with effectiveness in mind. Male Varies, but he tends to keep himself very tall in an effort to tower over those around him. Variable White Yellow-black Lead colored

Abilities

The basics: Konrad, being the vampire that he is, exhibits most of the abilities encountered in major vampire strains and then some. His senses are enhanced. He can use low-level telepathy to communicate with animals and control them. He's magically gifted (as far as vampires go) and it takes a lot more to kill him than an average human.

Konrad is also in possession of certain special skills that are only his, a kind of magic that is uncommon among spellcasters, living or dead, mortal or immortal. This ability is known as "biomancy" or "vicissitude."

Vicissitude: With it, an experienced crafter can sculpt the flesh and bone of a subject, making them a creature of alien beauty or gnarling them into a deformed monstrosity. Konrad uses it extensively on himself to alter his physical form for the better or worse, depending on his mood.

Vicissitude is primarily applied to oneself, enabling the user to improve their fundamental physical characteristics or develop whole new and intricate appendages. The user's magical pool, which this power draws from, sets its boundaries. Konrad is forced to bury himself in a place of power once every three days as a result, or else his body will start to age quickly and collapse in on itself from a lack of the magical energy that serves as a binding agent.

To effectively preserve his power, Konrad must be buried shoulder-deep in soil and spend at least seven hours in that state. While there, he draws upon arcane forces to rejuvenate him.

Note that while this Discipline permits powerful and horrific effects, the wielder must obtain skin-to-skin contact and must often first envision the result before applying it to the targeted subject. One cannot freely sculpt a resisting target.

Weaknesses

Sunlight: He doesn't seem to notice, but he's generally more powerful at night than he is during the day.

⤷Hallowed ground: Konrad can traverse them, but his powers are dampened by the holy blessings placed upon the soil/structure. Burying himself in such soil causes him physical discomfort and leaves him feeling drained.

⤷Sea salt: His first "serious" weakness. Direct contact with concentrated sea salt causes his skin to burn while the flesh in the vicinity of the burn bubbles and develops superficial boils. He cannot consume food that's been salted with sea salt since salt happens to be a pure element that repels unholy creatures. (Similar applies to "cold" forged iron)

⤷Silver: Silver, in all of its forms, can injure him and make it harder for Konrad to regenerate from said injury. Silver also messes with his ability to alter flesh and can even be used to immobilize him (assuming you can bind him with silver chains).

⤷Enchanted weapons: Enchanted weapons, specifically ones with "holy" alignment, destroy Konrad's flesh upon contact. The degree of damage is directly proportional to how potent the enchantment is. Same aplies to places. A skilled magician or a priest may erect a protective ward around a structure to prevent Konrad from entering it (until he breaks the ward, at least)

⤷Hunger: Optimally, a vampire like Konrad should be fed once a day. To achieve this goal, he can consume the blood of people or animals. The latter is less nutritious and considered sub-par, so it must be consumed in greater quantities to slake the sanguine thirst.

Blood, or more precisely the life force which it carries, is like fuel for a vampire. Failing to ingest blood for prolonged periods (more than a few days) will leave the vampire weakened and sluggish. Further starvation causes the vampire to sink into a torpor from which they cannot awaken without outside help.

Note: The blood of magical creatures is even more potent than that of normal humanoids. A single meal consisting of fae or dragon blood could last him for weeks.

Personality

People describe him as haughty, energetic, aloof, and overtly indifferent, but there's more to him than these base characteristics. He is a loyal friend to those true to him, with a utilitarian code of conduct that often marks him as more honorable than the more sophisticated people he meets in his travels.

He “lives in the moment” and isn’t driven by a higher purpose.
Personally, I’d call him amoral, in that he is not concerned with traditional issues of right and wrong.

Status and occupation

He is, or was, the son of a low-ranking noble who held sway over moderately sized swathes of territory within Allirian reach. Konrad never bothered to formally inherit the title because his father had long since passed away. Instead, he carted it off to a first cousin of his.

Konrad currently earns a living by either taking what he wants or performing odd jobs that no other reasonable person would do. As long as it doesn't hurt the common folk, he has no qualms about murdering and robbing people.

Author's note: Because he is an eternal vampire, I saw him as this wandering nomad who is constantly changing jobs and residences and is unable to maintain a stable career. He's got an eternity to spend, and he becomes bored, as would most people in his situation.

In an effort to discover and indulge himself, he traverses the globe. He is genuinely just motivated by his own interests—or lack thereof, thus his actions are dictated by his pleasure and displeasure.

Biography & Lore

Author’s note: I've considered writing an elaborate backstory for Konrad, at least a few pages of text detailing his life from childhood to early adulthood. In light of my previous, less successful endeavors, I've decided against the idea. Instead, I've given you, the readers, scraps of info that you can piece together to make a larger picture. These are all rudimentary information, just enough to paint Konrad's character while leaving enough unknowns to attract possible roleplay partners.

To elaborate. It crossed my mind that it'd be highly anticlimactic if anyone could leaf through the page and get to know everything about him that way. It's a bit...low effort? So, anyone interested in knowing him better will have to go out of their way to roleplay with me (or ask for further info, which I'll hand out sparingly and depending on my mood).
