Not much, if anything, is known about the largely mute Jester of Soddorrah circus. They are seen throwing themselves around, jumping off of high places and doing daring, darkly comic stunts. The people milling through the walkways of Soddorrah never paid the entry fees with the intention of watching The Jester's act- nevertheless, a huge crowd always ends up gathered around it's stage by the night's zenith, drawn in by gruesome intrigue and morbid fascination. When their act is done for the night, the jester disappears into the shadows of the carnival in a split second before anybody can pull them back and interact with them in the dispersing throng like the custom is with the other performers.

There are two people who could know anything about The Jester: the Mayor and Ringmaster of the carnival; and the carnival's resident fortune-teller; however, if either of them do know anything, they have not told anybody.

Appearance

The biological physical characteristics of The Jester are known to nobody, beyond their two piercing black eyes. Whoever nursed them as a child is long gone.
They wear a typical red-and-blue colour-schemed Jester's outfit, with a long cape. The outfit has clearly been patched and fixed over the years, with increasing skill. It still retains its vibrant colours. The outfit covers their entire body, framing their face. Over their face is a white mask, which holds the only holes in the jester's outfit: two dark eye-holes that reveal two peering eyes like black voids. The mask is scantily embellished, featuring only two stylistically painted raised eyebrows, and black painted in a circle around the eye-holes that enhances the dark depth that is already there.
The Jester is lanky, with an androgynous figure. Their biological sex can only be guessed at. They hold themself with a hunch, but it is clearly a performative choice, because they are otherwise very lithe and well-poised.

Skills and Abilities

immortality (?): For some strange supernatural reason, The Jester cannot die. They can be injured, but they always heal back very quickly. It is thought that they age, as the older denizens of the Carnival remember them when they were a child, although they were exactly the same in their childhood as they are in their adulthood. It is unknown if they still age, though. The extent of their immortality hasn't been discovered, whether they have a weakness or they will die of old age is unknown, although it is likely that they will die of something at some point, as it is an accepted rule that nothing can ever be immortal in Arethil.
For now, their functional immortality is used for their act, throwing themselves from heights and onto blades, contorting itself and setting itself on fire, creating a morbid spectacle for all to see.

Pain immunity: They either do not feel pain, or it does not affect them. It is unknown whether this is a part of their immortality, or whether years of injuring itself every night has built up a tolerance.

Performance: Having grown up performing to ever growing crowds in the Circus, The Jester is a master performer, despite its muteness. It uses morbidity and shock to weave together darkly comical and entertaining stagecraft.

Stealth: Being shrouded in mystery, The Jester is difficult to track and find, and can become lost within a crowd as easily as they can catch the attention of one.

Biography & Lore

The Jester grew up in Soddorrah Carnival, it is unknown who gave birth to them or who, if anyone, brought them up. There are stories that perhaps their family died in a fire, leaving the immortal baby to grow up in the shadows and smoke of the carnival, but these are just some of the many rumours that entertain the Denizens and Audiences of the carnival.
