Soloran's story began with the slaughter of his noble House DeVir when he was but an adolescent, his life spared due to his absence from the compound. The very hour Houses Baenre and Do'Urden attacked, he fled his home city of Menzoberranzan and ventured out into the Underdark alone. Making his way through the lightless tunnels, he found his way to the surface and to a new life, free of the goddess Lolth's influence. Though this new life was anything but peaceful.

At first, he was nothing more than a rogue, a sell-sword with no master. Skilled with the blade and at the arts of stealth and combat, and growing quite rich from those who would pay his fees, Soloran began to catch the eyes of the guilds of the land. He was approached by several, and over time decided to enlist in the ranks of those known as the Dark Ones. This group was a secretive sect of warriors, mages, and assassins, whose primary goal was to amass land and power and dominate those they sought to rule. Over the years, Soloran rose through their ranks, gaining a high position close to the guild's leader, a void mage whose name has been struck from all memory. This mage was a cruel, brutal, power-mad being who inflicted one too many wrongs upon Soloran, who led a small group of followers into battle against him. When the fight was over, Soloran took the seat of power of the Dark Ones, and the mage had been cast through a rend in the void without his sword Voidshard, and as such was erased from reality.

Not long after these events, Soloran was approached by the aspect of the god Vhaeraun, who appeared to the drow as a floating, black half mask. The words that were spoken between the god and the drow were never repeated, but soon after, Soloran left the Dark Ones' throne and set out to do the work of his new god, with his blessing.
