The Otternali are an amphibious people that can largely be found in tribes that dot the southern coast of the Allir reach. Known for their incredible swimming speed and their strength. The Otternali can almost always be found near the sea.

While not great in number, their increased strength and natural advantages in their home territory make them dangerous to challenge.

However, that is rarely a problem as the race had a tradition of hospitality and has fostered a reputation for kindness.

Appearance

The Otternali looks a lot like otters if they were more bipedal and larger. The average Otternali stands anywhere from 5'5 to 6'5 with a few cases of those being smaller and larger. The color of the fur can vary to a great extent, but the most common colors are black and brown.

All Otternali have webbed appendages and a tail that helps propel them through the water. However, those of the short tail subspecies have evolved to have short tails which grant them quicker movement on land.

Another common sight for each Otternali is a necklace made of seashells and others sentimental pieces that are made for them at their coming of age ceremony.

Expect to find the Otternali in tribal villages located on the coast.

Lore

The Otternali are divided into two subspecies, the short-tailed and the long-tailed. Long-tailed Otternali typically has longer tails and thicker coats and are considered a more natural fit for the sea and for hunting. Short tails find more success on dry land as they are quicker, their thinner fur also allows them to travel to more unique and foreign areas of the world with ease. They are also known to have a more magical affinity than their cousins.. Short tails have a reputation as smooth talkers, tradesmen, or shamans.

Even though they may be cousins, tribes are often intermixed between the two subspecies as they both work together to survive. It is rare to find tribes made of one singular subspecies.

Tribal Society is a strict caste system divided into four groups:
  • Shamans/Witchdoctors- Often the Elders of the tribe, they are the tribe's connection to the ocean and therefore hold the highest position.
  • Hunters/Warriors- The protection of the tribe. These are the fastest and strongest of the tribe.
  • Craftsman
  • Gatherers:
  • Outcast- Those deemed useless or dangerous are banished from the tribe. Theoretically, being removed from any interactions with any tribe. This is typically shown by a special onyx rock on their necklace.
