Background

History

According to legend, Ordermancy was once a form of Divine magic, until the deities who bestowed it decided their goals would be better served by making it more accessible. It's said they created and taught Ordermancy to the first of its practitioners.

Use

Ordermancy allows the wielder to summon golden energy to wield against their foes. It's stable, reliable, and can take the shape of either abstract energy or a solid object. However, once summoned, the energy must retain the shape that it came in. It cannot change from an object to energy or vice versa.

This magic has no effect on the wielder (should they follow the path of order) or other Ordermancer's, but will burn anyone else at the touch. Meanwhile, it will bring greater harm to agents of chaos, meaning those with an unstable mind or who bring chaos where they go.

The most basic uses of Ordermancy is in launching bolts of magic, creating objects (which will dissipate minutes later), or raising shields to protect the wielder. There are other, rarer abilities that some Ordermancer's possess. These vary greatly in use and sometimes can be a permanent condition of some kind. Although an ability like this will often come at a price.

Price and Rules

Ordermancy can only be used by those with a sound mind. Meaning someone who brings order to chaos, and has a firm command of their own mind. Those who are impulsive, reckless, or otherwise emotionally unstable are incapable of practicing Ordermancy. If they try, the magic will identify them as an agent of chaos and bring harm to them instead.

For that reason, practitioners must carefully watch over their mental state. As if they stray too far from the path of order they'll leave themselves open to being harmed by their own magic.

If one retains a sound mind, they'll be able to wield Ordermancy as any other magic. It will tire them out, in time, depending on their experience and energy, but it won't cause them any true harm.

Lore

Ordermancy has never been a widely practiced discipline. But there's always been various sects and schools who practice it, sometimes religiously. They're often reclusive, but send out agents to bring order to places that need it.
