Overview

Fogbrooke Village, sometimes jokingly called 'The Kingdom of Fogbrooke' is an independent farming and forestry village nestled on the east side of the river Bystra, bordering the vast plains of the Taagi Baara Steppe and the harsh lands of the Spine. It is well built and well maintained mostly self sufficient frontier town, eeking out a living but free from the politics of the world beyond.

Demographic

Founded by a former Baronet of the Dalriada Kingdom, Fogbrooke was originally 100% human. Over the last thirty years of it's existence wanderers, adventurers and a few escaping criminals have turned Fogbrooke into their home - changing the demographics ever so slightly with their presence.

Architecture

Fogbrooke is built mostly of wood, with small single family homes hugging the Bystra River and expanding outward only a few houses from the river itself. The north is dominated by the tree line, a single dirt path near the outskirts of the village trailing through them. The south is farmland, all owned by the founders family the Fogbrooke's and worked by all the village. The largest building in the village is the Fogbrooke Manor, a large three story manor built of imported stone which can be seen from the entire village.

Points of Interest

Fogbrooke Farms - The sizeable farm land which supports the entire village are known as the 'Fogbrooke Farms'. While legally 'owned' by the Fogbrooke estate these lands are communally worked and the food produced is equally distributed communally. While outsiders may expect the Fogbrooke estate to exert some control or manipulation over the citizens all who live off these farms would tell you otherwise.

Fogbrooke Manor - This massive stone built manor is the largest building in the village, looking more like a small citadel then a true manor the walls are painted a shining white. Home to the Fogbrooke family it seemingly lords over the small frontier village like an iron fist. That is until you approach the large double doors at the entrance, which are always ajar, and hear the merry sounds of a community. Entering the Fogbrooke Manor shows that the bottom floor is massive and open, a place large enough to fit the whole population of the village with room to spare. This is not an accident, for Fogbrooke manor is also the community gathering hall. While few have seen the private upper floors of the Fogbrooke Manor, most Fogbrooke community members believe it is likely far more quaint then the exterior would suggest.

Trade Docks - These two docks near the southern end of the village exist purely for import and export of goods. Most times of the year the small river trade boat that serves as the import/export trade craft is docked, maintained and owned by the Fogbrooke Estate. Twice a year the ship leaves trades with the likes of Alliria or Oban, returning with the luxury goods and other unobtainables requested by the citizenry. What little profit is left over is stored in the Fogbrooke Manor for emergency use.

History

Fogbrooke Village was founded in the year 340 by Sir Alous Fogbrooke, minor Baronet of the Dalriada Kingdom. Shamed by a scandalous incident marrying his maid and breaking off his arranged engagement with a woman from a more powerful family Alous fell into financial ruin. His lands seized by the crown due to the maneuvering of his ex-fiancées family Alous decided to take what little wealth he had left and strike out into the frontier. Roughly sixty other desperate men and their families chose to join the somewhat infamous Baronet Fogbrooke, and after a long few months rowing up the river Sayve they discovered the land which would become Fogbrooke Village.

The early years proved very difficult, but through the deft leadership of Alous Fogbrooke and his willingness to abandon the conventions of the gentry Fogbrooke Village became a successful if not quaint frontier town. Perhaps due to their lords friendly, gregarious nature the people of Fogbrooke became almost fanatically loyal to the Fogbrooke family. So deep was their loyalty that when traders stumbled upon the village they returned to their respective homes claiming that a 'Kingdom of Fogbrooke' existed, declaring that only a King could have such loyal subjects.

This name eventually caught on amongst the populace, whom jokingly refer to themselves as 'The Kingdom of Fogbrooke'. Unfortunately Alous Fogbrooke died young, only eight years after the founding of Fogbrooke Village; in mourning the entire community banded together to provide for Lady Emilia Fogbrooke and her new born son, Robaire. It was during this time that Fogbrooke Manor was built; to the surprise of many Emilia proved as deft if not more so a leader then Alous.

Through her plans they began export trading, developed a communal farming culture rather then the previous 'private' farming which left some families starving and turned the great forest around them into a resource which allowed the village to increase it's wealth considerably.

Over the last twenty two years Lady Emilia Fogbrooke has solidified the base of Fogbrooke Village into the stable economy and culture it has today. Sadly much like her husband Emilia passed far too early, her passing leaving the young Sir Robaire Fogbrooke in command of an entire village at the young age of twenty-two. None in the village are worried, as they have raised and watch grow the young Robaire themselves and they know the new King of the Kingdom of Fogbrooke will lead them into an even greater age.
