Devils (alternatively known as the infernals, Infernalis or demon lords), is a broad term describing a variety of magical creatures or beings that claim to inhabit the realms known as the Thirteen floors of Armageddon, or the thirteen layers of hell, applying to both sentient and non-sentient species.
This umbrella term is open to interpretation and regional variance.

Overview

A devil is a being of strange nature and origin. There is a vast variety of legends and lore concerning these beings from many different cultures across Arethil, relating inconsistent accounts of their physiology and abilities.

Language

The language predominantly spoken by Devils is called Geddon, it is a gutteral and hard edged tongue referencing to their beastial and harsh nature.

By all accounts, the Geddon language is a magical tongue when spoken outside the magically warped confines of the Thirteen Hells.
Speakers of this tongue who use it in the realm of mortals tap into a primordial flow of magic which causes their voice to reverberate demonically and often manifests as small earth tremors, unlocked doors and windows fly open and shut rapidly, candles or fireplaces dimming, flaring, lighting or blowing out and ambient light dimming around the speaker.

The Geddon language can be used in crafting magical spells and performing rituals, although such spells then become useless within the confines of the Thirteen Floors.

Alternatively, those who wish to communicate with a devil, or when two devils wish to communicate when met outside the Thirteen Hells without invoking hellish magics, they speak in a dialect called infernal which is just as gutteral but not infused with magic like its counterpart.

Appearance

Given the magically warped nature of their home, many devils reflect this in their appearance.
Many appearing as grotesque amalgamations of the humanoid form with horns and savage teeth, while other sorts of devils are mere animals that make the hells their home.

While many devils are Shapeshifters in some capacity their base form reflects the twisted and violent nature of their world.
Many possess horns, multiple eyes, claws, mouths full of shark like teeth, leathery bat-like wings and the color of their skin ranges widely to nearly every spectrum.
Some are short and fat, some are tall and thin, some are hulking and huge, some are frail and meek or anything in-between.

While most devils are aberrant monsters, some appear human or humanoid, perhaps as a reflection or corruption of the mortal or humanoids that they admire and despise so much.
Some can choose a form that pleases themselves and those around them, and some do not have that luxury.

Habitat

The devils live in a place called the Thirteen Floors of Armageddon, the Thirteen Layers of Hell, or the Thirteen Hells.

It is an abyssal hole in the Underdark, reaching down beyond all knowledge or thought.
It is a place permeated and warped by the corruption of magic, it is believed that this corruption of magic is what gave birth to these creatures known as Devils.

Each of the thirteen floors are different, but each one is hostile to life in some way, shape or form. Only devils seem to possess the ability to thrive in this place.

Racial Traits

Most devils share several common traits, but these are simply what it means to live in the warped abyss of Armageddon.
Most Devils can see unimpeded when subjected to any kind of darkness, including magically induced darkness.

These creatures are the lowest of the low, these are mortal souls captured by the devils and forced to reside forever in the Thirteen Hells as grotesque mounds of mobile flesh.
Commonly used as a food source or troop fodder for other devils, these devils have a unique ability to prolong their suffering. Unless they are killed by someone good or with holy means, they will always appear again back in the Hells within a few days to continue to serve.

It's practically unheard of for a lemur to advance in status.
Imps are amongst the lowest ranking devils and often serve more powerful devils to advance their own ranking. They are small in stature sporting bat-like wings, two stubby horns and a long stinger tail.

The tail can deliver a venom that could prove fatal to most mortals it stings.
An Imp can only shapeshift into vermin creatures, like a rat, a large spider, a raven or some other lower order vermin. They are sometimes summoned as familiars to evil magic users.
Imps, like most intelligent devils, possess some ability with magic. They deal with mortals in contracts and are generally the easiest to contact when seeking favors from a devil.
Also amongst the lowest category of Devil, cambions are the natural or supernatural offspring between a mortal and a devil. Halfbreeds they find very little standing amongst other devils and very few of them are able to amass enough power to increase their standing.
Often they simply serve their sires as soldiers, but sometimes they are used as spies or assassins.

Because of their halfbreed physiology their appearance can be varied depending on the parents, whether they appear more mortal or devil.
Because of their devilish nature they possess some small ability to alter their appearance, such as hiding their more devil like traits. With their voice they can compel a single mortal creature to follow a simple command.
They also possess a second sight that allows them to see whether an object or person is magical or under the effects of a spell.
