History

Clearwater was founded by Tobias Reeves, a nobleman who followed the religion of Kiva. He set up the village to be as close to the ocean as possible and almost entirely self-sustaining. Clearwater was originally very intolerent of others who were not devout worshipers of Kiva, but slowly, long after Tobias died, they opened their gates to all members who can help them out.

Notable Events:
193: The village of Clearwater was established by Tobias Reeves and other devout followers of Kiva south of the Eye of Kiva. There was an initial population of 13 humans of various trades and classes. It was nestled between large plant life, colorful coral, and warm sands, making it quite a scenic spot.

194: The foundation of the village was wiped out by a hurricane (known by locals as the Test of Faith), leaving many without a home. However, the villagers collectively agreed that this was simply a trial by Kiva to test their loyalty, and they rebuilt their structures once again.

197: Marina Cybelle was the first life to be brought into the world within the village of Clearwater. The men of the village decided it would be a good time to start construction on a magnificent church, worthy of Kiva's favor.

200: Tobias Reeves, some say driven by a mind-altering illness or simply wanting to grow closer to his faith, intentionally drowns himself in the waters by the village's coastline in a public display of macabre devotion. Although some tried to stop him, the waves were simply too fierce, keeping bystanders at bay and quickly ending Reeves. The waters never quite seemed as harsh before, and have never been so harsh again.

201: The village of Clearwater finished construction with a total population of 15 humans. Although Reeves had laid out a plan in case of his passing to establish a theocracy to govern the village, the majority of villagers voted instead for a direct democracy, causing a family of four to sail back to their original home in protest.

204: Joshua Basil, a middle-aged fisherman, discovered a nest of Kivren when he ventured out to sea. The village was conflicted on whether or not to kill the potential threat before they reached maturity or to leave them alone, seeing as it was a possibilty that they were children of Kiva. With a difference of a single vote, the villagers decided to leave them alone and simply monitor their activities.

210: The Church of the Abyssal Deity is founded out of sandstone and larimar with a massive pearl at the center, being the closest land-based church to the Eye of Kiva in all of Arethil. This proved to be a wise decision for the villagers, as it brought in (and still does to this day) many followers looking to make their pimgrimage.

221: Winston Connor, a leatherman, becomes the first death in the village of Clearwater. The village set up a small, simple graveyard on top of a grassy hill and used wooden planks decorated with coral as a gravestone. A memorial service that lasted three days was held, and many prayers were sent to Kiva.

249: The Kivren that were noticed by Joshua Basil had reached maturity and had started to grow closer towards the village. They were growing bolder, more confident in their environment, worrying the settlers. Occasionally, they would find one of their tools stolen or the traps for food dismanteled with the resources inside taken. The villagers began readying themselves for conflict, and set up small walls surrounding the coast.

263: A terrible mosquito infestation took hold of the settlement, causing widespread fever and vomiting to the point of death. They sent out a distress message to other villages, but only one individual responded to them. The villagers were wary of him, but he claimed to be a simple bard that happened to hear of their troubles. He offered to cleanse the village of their problem for a large sum of jewels. The village agreed, and the bard began a ritual to help them. The mosqitoes died... but so did much of the plant life and fish. Deeming it to be dark magic, the village sent the furious bard off without payment, and he was never heard from again.

308: The population recovered from the plague, skyrocketing from 9 to 17. A celebration of life, known as the "Aqua Chorus", became an annual tradition for the village. The festival consisted of free fish being given out, decorating clothes with small gems, and dancing around the Church of the Abyssal Deity.

352: A young Kivren male, who later adopted the name "Dorian Galanis", emerged from the sea and spoke broken common towards the villagers. He revealed that he had been eavesdropping on them to learn their language, and that the Kivren wanted to negotiate terms. The Kivren promised to give them bountiful harvests of fish in exchange for recognized citizenship for Clearwater. The villagers eventually agreed, giving the Kivren a home in both the land and the sea.
