Appearance

Ryke stands at an above average height for a human female. Her body fit from a life of travel and tedium, yet tempered by moons without meals. She boasts stunning locks of pale gold which strike out in a crowded slum. A pair of deep blue eyes flank a wide but flat nose, and thin brows stroke their ceiling.

She walks with stern confidence upon a pair of noticeably large feet, her lips unyielding to her true emotions. Her slender fingers feint delicacy, at the end of weathered hands. Strangers may mistake her for a statue yearning to be real. Where allies see a beacon of her virtues, enemies will see shallow arrogance.

Skills and Abilities

A trinity of quill, sword, and tongue make up this woman's repertoire. In battle an opponent will be hard-pressed to find weakness, but never stunned by overwhelming excellence. While she favors sword and shield in a fight, she is also unafraid of a grapple. In debate or diplomacy, Ryke is exceptionally knowledgeable and summons her thoughts with distinct assurance.

In her pursuit of justice, Ryke has spent this half of her life on the road. She has picked up barter, and knows enough to survive without the comforts of civilization for weeks at a time. Trained senses allow her to notice signs of all but the most crafty bandits and raiders.

Personality

Though not emotionless, Ryke has learned long ago how to wear a face. For one reason or another she maintains a guise of detachment in her affairs. The only exception being when her curiosity gets the better of her. The vast unknowns of her world have so far driven Ryke to learn as much as she can.

In social situations, Ryke is quiet and reserved. Some may mistake this for shyness, but ultimately she is unwilling to connect with anyone she doesn't except to know for a long time.

An inquisitive person by nature, Ryke always seeks the truth in her affairs no matter what and will not conclude a moment until that is satisfied. A lack of resolution in this regard often leaves her bitter and resentful.

Biography & Lore

Ryke was born in a small village whose name will not be found on any regional map or in any records. She can only remember it as "home" and it is a home she doesn't long for. Her father was a soldier in service of their lord, and her mother a seamstress who sold her goods at the lord's market.

Growing up, Ryke spent most of her time as a page girl to the village lawgiver. She learned how to recite laws, and understood each punishment accordingly. As she grew older, she began to assist the aging lawgiver in solving dilemmas and even carrying out verdicts in more petty scenarios.

The only moment of her childhood worth remembering was the day she learned her father died defending a caravan from raiders. In truth it was far from tragic for a young girl who saw the man only in the winter months when he was often drunk and bitter. Yet it struck a chord in her about the futility of her existence. How easy it was for death to reap.

Not long after, her mother remarried to a modest hog farmer. The wealth, though far from significant, allowed her to retire into a quiet life. For Ryke this was a symbol for changing times. As her mother relinquished the thread and needle, Ryke would find her own path.

It was no small task, but with the support of the lawgiver Ryke was allowed to travel to the lord's estate and attend a hearing on the lawgiver's behalf. In his stead she arbitrated a trial of a man accused of murdering his brother. Over the next eleven days she observed debates and listened to witness testimonies, but stayed true to her own experience. Eventually she and the other lawgivers within the lord's lands convened and decided justice.

Though she knew it was a consensus, ultimately to be carried out by their lord, it was the first time her words had executed a man. After this experience Ryke realized how much power laws had over the fate of lives. in this realization, she departed her home with her father's old sword and unfitting armor.

Along the road of wandering she trained with mercenaries and bards, slept in barns and under starless skies. She encountered bandits, and trekked desecrated lands. All of these experiences tempered her expectations, and shaped her sense of true justice.

Years after her departure, Ryke had finally become something other than the lawgiver's page or the daughter of a dead soldier. She was an arbitrator in search of those who needed justice. Whether it be solving a dispute, hunting down a murderer, or advising lords on their laws
