Ruslan Gildal
Appearance and Equipment
* Long dark brown hair pulled back into a knot and with loose bangs, brown eyes, full beard, tanned skin, 6'0½, sturdy build.
* Usually clad in light armor and clothes, with dark earthen colors.
* Usually armed with his fighting axe.
Skills and Abilities
Praetor Anti-Magic: Gifted with anti-magic, Ruslan is capable of summoning a translucent dome several meters in diameter around himself to negate magical effects and spells within, and to protect himself and those inside from incoming magic. The more magic that is negated, the greater the cost to Ruslan, and eventually the dome will either be overpowered or Ruslan will succumb to intense arcane fatigue.
Praetor Training: Praetors of Gild are warrior statesmen, and as such they receive ample martial training. Though young, and while having been in battles but not yet full-scale war, Ruslan nevertheless has combat experience and skill with melee weaponry. The axe is his preferred weapon.
Personality and Characteristics
Major
* Ambitious and adventurous, Ruslan feels ceaselessly the urge for action, for aspiring to greater heights, and to experience again and again the joy of a challenge conquered.
* Calm and in control of himself, patient, he rarely gets tugged away on a tide of emotion. Apt to make light of a dire situation. His cool under pressure and general optimism gives him good traits as an up and coming leader of men.
* Openminded, willing to listen, and not so proud as to consider himself superior to others. Readily admits to faults and mistakes and takes ownership of them as well as taking charge of the chance to improve himself because of them.
* Can be reckless, since his penchant for taking risks and glory-seeking can be a double-edged sword, potentially either rewarding or damaging.
* Sociable, full of good cheer, and with a natural magnetism for his affability.
Minor
+ Has something of a dangerous smirk, the kind one might see before some trouble or daring feat ensues.
+ His curiosity often dulls his piety when it comes to magic, and he tends to see it more as a fascination than as a blasphemy.
+ Difficult to truly insult.
+ Practices as a masseur on the side, and it's something of a secret, don't tell anyone.
Biography and Lore
First-born son to Kadir Gildal, grandson to Senator Quinneas Gildal, and heir to the House of Gildal's mainline descendants, Ruslan occupies a place of great privilege, great responsibility, and great opportunity.
Ruslan was always encouraged in a rough-and-tumble way by his energetic father Kadir to be daring, to take risks and overcome fear, to venture into the unknown, and this upbringing stuck with the young Ruslan and formed the foundation for the man he would become. In his adolescence he thought of becoming a professional soldier, volunteering for every levy and every maniple raising, claiming glory in battle filling his belt with notches of achievement; as it so happened, his wish was granted in an unexpected and perhaps even providential way, as he was discovered to have the powers of a Praetor.
After his Holy Accolade and as a newly titled Praetor, Ruslan found that the timing was...somewhat inopportune. Gild was enjoying a state of isolationist peace in recent times as the rest of Campania wrestled with strife and war.
Far from dismayed, Ruslan decided to take adventure into his own hands and embark on the unofficial Gildan custom of Gezi, a journey out into the magic-filled world of Arethil to immerse oneself in cultures far, shores unknown, and people unfamiliar before a return home.
And so it has begun. Ruslan hopes to take back to Gild a great many lessons and experiences, and all the better when the age of peace inevitably comes to a close and brave countrymen are once again called for.
