Remi Serran Useda
Appearance and Equipment
* Short, dark brown hair with a small ponytail and a braid behind his right bang, yellowish-orange eyes (reflective of his magic), dark skin, 5'3", ectomorphic build. Somewhat feminine in appearance.
* Usually wears a white jacket, black tunic over white undershirt, white gloves, gray pants, and black boots. Likes to wear some jewelry: various earrings, necklaces.
* Usually armed with a sword or spear modified to hold vials of Aurum.
Skills and Abilities
Aurum: The base component of his magic, Remi liquifies raw mana from his surroundings. This liquified mana has a bright yellow or golden look, hence the name. Remi then has control over the Aurum and can manipulate it as he sees fit within a certain range.
** Unformed Aurum itself can be used to "ground" or absorb other kinds of magic, and so has particular effectiveness against enemy mages. This, however, is highly inefficient, and powerful enemy magic would take a lot of Aurum to smother and cancel it out.
Shattering and Hardening: Aurum that comes into contact with physical matter can then be used to form a crystalline structure. This crystalline structure can either be made brittle and weak (i.e. for Shattering a stone wall like glass, or breaking apart a foe's limbs with ease) or tough and strong (i.e. for forming a defensive shield, impromptu armor, impromptu "brass knuckles," or even crystalline spikes).
Dreadlord Martial Training: Like all Dreadlords, Remi is trained in a variety of martial weapons and hand-to-hand combat. Though his small size sets him back considerably in grappling.
Personality and Characteristics
Major
* Thoughtful. More calculating than impulsive. Likes to think before he speaks, but has no problem saying what he wants to say, especially if he believes he is right. Often headstrong.
* Adventurous, but cautious. Tends to assess risk before diving into something. Even a moment's worth of consideration pays dividends later.
* Practical. Disregards rules at his leisure (save for the tenets of the Useda code).
* Clever and creative. Took every opportunity he could to learn whilst living with the nomadic Useda clan, even at that very young age.
* Precise and exacting, notably in his speech, which can either lend him an air of being refined or being overly literal (he tends not to use metaphors). Tendency towards perfectionism.
* Still retaining much of the Useda code, Remi maintains a strong sense of fidelity, cohesiveness to a group, and reciprocity. A gift given or favor done is always repaid.

Minor
+ Polyglot. Absorbed languages quickly in the travels of the Useda clan. He is fluent in Elvish and Orcish, less so in native Komodi, and has some passing knowledge on a few other less common languages.
+ Engineering is a hobby. Often helped the Useda craftsmen in repairing wagons and tents, and was proficient enough to do so himself before he was taken into the Academy.
+ Likes to hoard money.
+ Uses a pejorative term, Gaje (meaning non-Useda, often with a negative connotation), against people he doesn't like.
+ Is annoyed by bragging or lack of humility. Doesn't care for hierarchies built on strength (coincidentally, like the Dreadlord system).
+ Easily flustered if a plan doesn't work out or if he guesses incorrectly at something.
Biography and Lore
The Useda clan is bound to no kingdom or settled territory. Originating as bedouins of the Amol-Kalit desert, their nomadic itinerancy has spread out to encompass all of Liadain, the entirety of the continent they claim to be their home. Though the Useda clan is comprised of a confederation of a great many families, all of them adopt the surname Useda (middle names, like Serran, are used by the families to distinguish themselves). The Useda people are not only ethnically Kaliti humans anymore, but have among their number now elves, orcs, komodi, and subspecies and half-breeds thereof, for over the years of increasingly expansive travel many diverse races have married into the Useda and have become assimilated to their way of life. Maligned in some areas and welcome in others, the Useda never stay in one place for too long, always on the move in their massive caravans, eager to do trade or to lend their services if they can.
And it is from this setting that Remi was taken.
He had only just discovered his strange magic power at the age of eight. Right in the heart of Anirian lands. The Serran Useda family had broken off from the main Useda gathering to head into Vel Vara, seeking to deliver a promised shipment of goods to a local there. Remi, in a mistake that would come to haunt him dearly, showed off his magic to a group of Anirian children, the thought that he and his family were no longer in Falwood slipping his mind.
He was seen and reported. But not by any of the Anirians, no. By another member of the Useda people who held a grudge against the Serran family.
Proctors were dispatched.
And Remi Useda was violently taken from his father, his mother, his brothers and sisters. No questions were asked, and by the time it was determined that Remi was not Anirian, it was already too late.
He was in the Academy.
