The Sun of Seret
“The heaviest penalty for declining to rule is to be ruled by someone inferior to yourself.”
-Plato

Rasoul is the new leader of the recently reclaimed city of Seluca. He promises a better future for his people but admits it will not come without a cost. The sultan knows that the desert thirsts not for water, but blood. Currently he seeks to solidify his position but his ambitions do not stop there.

Appearance

The sultan is not physically imposing but still carries a commanding air about him. He tends to wear the traditional garb of his people. A long tunic with wide-sleeves accompanied by a sleeveless cloak. His headdress covers most of his jet-black hair. Rasoul favors the colors of the desert for his attire; a sandy-brown and a maroon which represents the blood sacrificed over generations. A scimitar can be found at his side though that is mostly for show these days.

Skills and Abilities

The Negotiator - A political creature by nature, the sultan is well-versed in the game. Rasoul relies on his keen insight to maneuver through his many dealings. He is adept at not only understanding his own position but that of others as well. It is with this skill that he is able to draw people to him.

Desk Jockey - Well-educated and even more well-informed, Rasoul is a quick-hand at administration. His ability to manage effeciently from his study is what will likely see him achieve greater stability in the future. The coming days are likely to test his touted statecraft.

Sword Logic - He has trained with the blade since he was young but cannot boast any great skill with it. Rasoul can hold his own in a fight against average soldiers but that is generally his limit. His combat experience is limited to the minor skirmishes retaking the city and fending off a few assassins. A prince in many ways but not a warrior-prince.

Personality

A sharp mind and an even better eye for people, these two traits have served him well in his rise to power. It was inevitable that he would break from the neutral position that his father always eschewed. The simple fact is that Rasoul enjoys the game of politics and all the machinations that come with it. He is, however, often more concerned with the big picture; a strategist as opposed to a tactician. This can lead to him overlooking smaller details which may be of import.

He may excel at statesmanship but he does so because he has a goal. Rasoul has a deep connection to Seluca and more importantly, its people. He was spurned into his position after seeing those around him despair. The loss of freedom, defacing of their temples; all of it plays a significant part in the sultan's motivations. He wishes to see his people prosper and the first step was to remove the despot. The sultan certainly has ambitions but not those driven by personal greed.

Rasoul has a general mindset of conciliation until he is forced to do otherwise. Therefore most will find him to be good, or at least, respectful company. He has a great admiration for talented individuals and is known to take care of those who work for him.
