Second only to rice as a staple crop, these tubers are also common trail food, due to their proximity to popular waterways. While time consuming to cook, a single, fully formed specimen can provide the necessary calories to support an adult human for 24 hours. It is only their slow growth cycle and the space needed to grow them that keeps this plant from dominating subsistence farming in the region.

Appearance

Typically sporting a pair of stalks reaching roughly 2 ft in length and a cluster of pink flowers when at harvesting age. Root structure, including tuber with up to 10 points, reaches roughly 1 ft.

Habitat

Generally found partially submerged in shallow waters along rivers.
