Perla Irven
A spindly shut-in alchemist and enchanter who prefers to stay in her room to tinker on magical items.
Appearance
A scrawny young woman with wild curly blonde hair and dark brown eyes. Usually she can be seen with dark circles under her eyes while wearing some slightly stained blue cloak or an apron if she happens to be working. Her hair is almost always tied back and she is distinctly short, causing her great misery when trying to reach shelves.
Skills and Abilities
Item Enchantments
Perla has a unique ability to enchant items or to create items to use for magic. For example, she can figure out how to craft wands, tomes, and staffs for any aspiring mage. Or she could just enchant their outfits so they cannot catch fire. Or tinker with a pipe to have it create a monster made of smoke.
But like any magic, there is a price. Specifically her time and ingredients to actually figure out how to enchant the item or make it work. She cannot just snap her fingers but has to spend days, weeks, or even months to actually enchant that item. Even then, enchantments can fade away or stuff can break. None of her items are invincible.
Alchemy
Perla is a brilliant alchemist who adores messing around with potions and general alchemy. Whether its a pill to make you fall asleep, a potion to turn your hair a different color, or an incense that can give you heightened senses, Perla is ready to make them. Again, like any form of magic there is a price. Potions take time and ingredients to make. Perla cannot make them in an instant and needs to come prepared if she intends on using them.
Magic Sense
Perla has the ability to sense magic after it has been used. She can tell the time, location, and the type of magic used. However, she has to be present at the location and no more than a month can have passed. If a month as passed, she cannot sense any of the magic. If the magic user has actively hidden their trail of magic through some method, it is unlikely that Perla will be able to sense anything.
Basic Combat
Perla has been trained in both hand-to-hand combat, knife combat, and archery. Despite her scrawny nature and sleep deprivation, she is fast when she's got enough adrenaline running through her.

Weaknesses
Sleep Deprivation
Because she works so much, she rarely gets sleep. The amount of times she has been found sleeping on the floor, during meals, or in some trunk somewhere is quite a bit.
Prep Time
Perla cannot enter combat safely unless she has brought enchanted items or some potions. She MUST have prep time before a fight or gone in with some sort of safety potions/enchanted items. Perla can survive one attack but she cannot go through more than three enemies without assistance or preparations.

Personality
Obsessive with her work, Perla often forgets that there is an outside world that DOESN'T involve magic. If working was a drug, she would be an addict. However, she is a genius when it comes to her work and fairly quick at picking up new information even if its not related to magic. She enjoys inventing and is horrible with schedules. Dealing with people is her least favorite activity and she'd rather just stay inside her room all day than interact with real people.
Biography & Lore
When she was three, she was already picking up traces of magic. It was small at first but her parents noticed that if there was magic around then Perla was not too far behind. Her grandfather was a Dreadlord who had died long before her birth and both parents were ecstatic to hand her over to the Dreadlords.
Or at least that's the tale she was told by Proctors. They had been hoping for a powerful magic detector and always pushed her, in hopes she would develop some greater ability. Alas, she was naught but disappointment. Her skills ended up developing in enchanting items and working in alchemy.
This is when she became a useful tool. Dreadlords always had a problem of controlling young students, even if the Proctors were powerful. Enchanted items weren't a new thing and they had always had methods of finding anti-magic shackles to control their students. But now, they could have more be made. Instead of buying them from other countries and wasting a massive amounts of money, they could have it made.
Perla ended up getting tasked with making anti-magic shackles, pills to put unruly students to sleep, and was used for her magic detecting senses. She was a tool to find more children and useful to keep others down. Any tomes that needed to be made or fixed was pushed to Perla. Any enchantments required on armors or suits in preparation for a battle was given to Perla to work on. Any time there was an enchantment or potion needed, they called for her.
Slowly she became less of a battle mage and more of an indentured servant. The benefit? The few laboratories were all hers. Nobody bothered her. Nobody talked to her. It was difficult to make friends when you made the shackles that bind them. As she got older, she talked less and less to the others. She dove into her work as it was the only thing that really made her feel comfortable.
At a young age, she began working on a private tome that she kept hidden away from the Dreadlords. She would write down any spell she knew or saw in other tomes or scrolls. Over time she began adding additional sections to the book. Sections for potions, enchantments, spells, rituals, magical monsters, familiars, etc. She even copied down information on the other student's known abilities and started trying to figure out more about magic. The tome isn't finished and likely won't ever be finished but it is one of her personal projects that she's extremely proud of, even if nobody will ever see it.
When the revolution came around, she fully expected to die. She expected to get killed for the times she was used in finding kids or the times she made magical items for Dreadlords. Yet to her surprise, she survived. They even let her continue her work, though they didn't bother her as much for her magical detection abilities. She still makes enchanted items and potions for the Dreadlords and still is piled in months worth of work. But at least she is left alone.
