Summary
Born as the youngest daughter of a warlord of the Temuha tribe, she belonged to one of the many Steppes human tribes that lived in the vast and sparsely inhabited lands of the Taagi Bara Steppes. Living in a tribe where both men and women were equal and had freedom of the roles they picked for themselves, the young Niyu opted for the path of warrior, following in the footsteps of her father. The human tribes that roamed the lands of the Steppes were on friendly terms with the Centaurs of the Tarakhi Qhanate, and many considered them to be the human counterparts. The two species traded often and can be seen in many instances sharing tales of adventure and other such stories.
As she grew up, Niyu proved to be an excellent warrior and just as highly gifted an archer as most of the marksmen in the tribe. After her father rose to power and reunified all the human Steppe tribes to become one beating heart and became known as the Great Prince, he announced his plans to all his war leaders to offer their services in battle for those that wished to hire them. The rites of passage for all warriors-in-training were hastened and less than a year after reunification, Niyu found herself as a fledgling warrior and the newest member of one of the many warbands the formed the great host led by the Great Prince. Because of her father’s status, she has plenty to prove to others and herself that she has what it takes to make a good warrior unlike what some of her older brothers claim.
Appearance
Possessing distinctive and expressive warm hazel eyes that often carry a life on their own, they are known to convey a visual message when her words and body expression do not. Her face is a round oval in shape, her nose slender, her plump lips a healthy shade of pink.
Her facial features are gentle but distinct, and to the other human civilizations of Arethil, they just might find her to have a comely exotic appearance not easily forgotten. Her rich raven hair complements her fair unblemished milky tone very well. She usually wears her chest-length hair free, but in times of heavy physical activity, she tends to either keep them tied in twin braided pigtails ornamented in typical traditional Steppe fashion.
Her figure is slim and athletic, well-toned from plenty of physical and weapons training in her line of work as a warrior. Often underestimated because of her feminine appearance, most will realise that she is a lot tougher than her appearance gives credit for. She is usually seen dressed in a studded red silk and leather robes over a chainmail coat with a gorget layered with metal plates for added protection. An ornately designed metal helmet with gold trimings and a large tail of dyed red horse hair hangs from the peak of the helmet. Hanging down from either sides of the helmet are gold beads and small tails of red horse hair. Protecting the sides of her head are
Skills and Abilities
Horse Riding - The nomads of the Taagi Baara Steppes are considered to be one of the best horsemen of the known world. Her parents placed her on a horse and hold her there before she can even hang on without assistance. By the age of 4, she was already riding horses with her parents. By age 6, she was competing in races; by age 10, she was fully proficient in riding. Unlike other civilizations of Arethil, it is common for young girls and women to gallop on horseback with just as much agility as men.
Archery - All children were taught archery from a young age, and the mastery of archery along with horse riding were one of the two most prominent skills that dominated a child’s daily life. Once they had grown competent in these skills, they would practice these often in hunting trips and in combat once they grew older and decided to pursue the path of a warrior. They practiced with two types of bows, one for long range shooting and another for fighting at close range. She mastered this skill early, and like many others began to work hard on increasing her speed with firing, enabling her to let loose two or three arrows accurately in the time most would fire one.
The materials of the bow were made from the flora and fauna found within the steppes itself. The design of the longer-range bow allowed them to fight at a distance while maintaining accuracy. This meant that they could hit enemies with salvos while being out of range.
Swordsmanship - Far from being an expert with blades, she is still decent enough with fighting with a sword and able to hold her own in a fight. Fighting with swords was the third skill most children would learn after they had reached a level that proved competent enough for their instructors. Their swords are slim and curved and favor quick lethal strikes.
Personality
A constant bright ball of energy that always finds herself being involved in some activity, Niyu’s resourcefulness is a key factor in helping her achieve her goals and desires. Highly persistent, she does not give up once she sets her sights on something. Often doing her best to stay calm and level-headed in crises in an attempt to turn the odds in her favour, these attempts often fail as the impulsive side of her takes over. Chided many a time for her reckless behaviour, she is working on curbing her bursts of impulsivity. A highly emotional individual, she is also known to be incredibly passionate about what she believes in. Armed with a fighting spirit, she’s not one to turn down a challenge and usually takes them up willingly and excitedly. Being brave and adventurous has been something Niyu has never lacked from a young age. Being afraid of few things and always keen and inquisitive, it has made her perpetually curious, always wanting to try out new things and give it at least a shot at least once.
Known to be incredibly stubborn, once she gets set in her ways, it is difficult to talk her out of doing something unless there is a very good reason for not doing so. She enjoys other people taking an interest in her activities and sometimes don’t even mind them getting into her space. She enjoys lending a hand and sharing their experiences, especially with the people she cares about.
Intensely loyal and steady, she is bold and passionate, and remains committed towards the things that captures her interest and she always gives her best to to all she puts herself through. If one does not end up being frightened off by her exuberant personality, they’ll find her to be a charming individual.
