A lifelong priest of the Annunaki religion, Nahib has ascended to a high rank within the priesthood of Seluca. Well entrenched in the city’s politics, he enjoys significant pull and sway within its affairs. Though he is not royalty, his influence remains great and his authority affords him great pull within the society of the city. While nobles may view him a rival, the peasantry and lower noble ranks tend to see him as a spiritual leader. The threat of sparked dissidence remains a primary tool to manipulate and maintain control, and Nahib is constantly at work to keep his influence secure.

Appearance

Clean shaven, aside from a meticulously maintained beard, carefully wrapped and braided within a golden scaffolding. He has his head shaved daily, and there exists not a hair on his head.

Nahib is almost always clad in his ceremonial attire, consisting of white linen robes worn beneath a turquoise mantle. Upon his head he wears a golden khat, a symbol of his priestly station. Upon his shoulders he wears a gorgerine of gilded brass, with feathers draping down the sides of the bulky accessory.

His robes are laden with gold trim woven into them. On his waist he wears an extravagant green belt of green cloth and golden beads, tied beneath an ornately engraved golden disk.

Skills and Abilities

Public Speaker

Shrewd and silver tongued, Nahib carries the confidence and presence one might expect of a lector-priest. An expert with words and tone, his talents have been honed through decades of practice. Taking the prestige of his post with him wherever he might go, taking great pleasure in his societal position. Lies, deceit, treachery and coercion are his most favoured tools to meet his ends, and are generally the first to be selected to resolve whatever problem might concern him at the moment.

Private Plotter

Though he presents himself in a warm light, Nahib is truly a cold and calculating man. He’d have no qualms in sharing a cordial breakfast with someone, only to see them executed later in the day. Given his network of contacts, dirt on high-ranking nobles and his position as the community’s spiritual leader. There is no cost considered too high to be the price of his ambitions, so long as someone else is paying the tab. To Nahib, people are little more than pieces on the board, to be used and moved about in whatever manner brings him the greatest possible advantage.

Priestly Power

Ordained as a priest, his faith allows him the use of Divine magic empowered by the Anunnaki. While he is a worshipper of all The Six, Annuk is the deity he holds as highest, and by whose blessing he receives his power. He may use his magic towards several purposes. He can mend the wounds of others, place protective magic over places and objects, scry locations, and unravel curses, among other things. His magic is more utilitarian than competitive. Though competent, his spellcasting power can be considered to be a touch lacking compared to other priests, given the great premium Nahib places on political prowess over magical.

Personality

Outwardly, Nahib is a warm and affable man. Skill with words and an endearing tone tend to earn him the ear of many, and these talents have carried his career as a priest far. Highly sociable, he will rarely shy from any opportunity for discourse, especially with others of important stature or political usefulness. Nahib is a man who is constantly focused on his social stature and political potential, and these priorities always remain high in his mind.

Nahib rarely raises his voice, not even in anger. He has enough discipline to respond calmly even during a stressful altercation, but his pleasant manners should not be mistaken for true kindness. Issued threats are considered wasteful and prideful, and utterly abhorred. Nahib simply does not care for it. As far as he is concerned, anything that warrants aggression warrants assassination, and announcing his aggression can only cause his victim to become more guarded, making it harder to inflict.

There is no sense of loyalty beyond himself. Only the gods themselves are worthy of placement before his own interests. To this end, Nahib and ensures that the high priests and those who communicate with them interpret their communication in a fitting manner. To have control is to be content, and Nahib will always seek to have it, whether it’s presently needed or not.
