Appearance

Haunting and beautiful. Nadja is slender and graceful. Her skin is pale, like a porcelain doll, with a faint, almost translucent quality that gives her an unnaturally fair and delicate look about her- as though she were a spirit herself. Her hair contrasts the pallor of her skin, falling in long dark brown waves down her back. Her most captivating features has always been said to be her eyes- a vivid green that has seen the world of the living and the spirits beyond. Her eyes had been brown before the death of her sister. Now, they appear to glow a soft green, perhaps due to the spiritual energy of her twin.

Skills and Abilities

  • Nadja can see the realm between life and death, where the spirits linger. The constant exposure, and sometime unintentional swap between seeing reality and spirits is mentally exhausting. She struggles to maintain the line between living and spirits, sometimes leading to confusing hallucinations when she has been exposed for too long.
  • She is a spirit magnet, constantly drawing spirits to her. Spirits both benign and malevolent are welcomed by her twin's spirit, who feeds off of them to strengthen their bond. Malevolent spirits may be hostile to Nadja, while friendly with her sister.
  • Nadja's souls is intertwined with that of her deceased sister. It brings her strength, but also can overwhelm her leading to changes in her behavior that she is unable to fully control.
  • Nadja has formed a bond with a deceased dragon, Vulkruundor, between realms. In the spirit realm, he is a magnificent beast covered in black and purple scales. Nadja united his spirit with his burial site and now he serves both her and her twin. In the realm of the living, Vulkruundor, appears as he was when she found the burial site: a skeleton of a dragon. Vulkruundor breathes a purple necrotic breath that withers flesh and corrodes anything it touches. His breath can temporarily reanimate the fallen. Vulkruundor has a plethora of other talents that even Nadja has yet to discover.

Personality

  • Nadja
    • Nadja is a deeply introspective girl, often appearing lost in thought as she struggles to navigate reality and the realm of the spirits. She is compassionate, often choosing to communicate with the spirits and hear their plights. She feels the emotions of the spirits deeply and is driven by her desire to help those suffering. This burdens her, the constant pressure of spirits and her twin's lingering influence have left her haunted by memories and emotions that do not belong to her. She experiences bouts of melancholic moods when she is weighed down by the sorrows of others.
  • Talya
    • Talya, Nadja's twin, was vibrant and extroverted while alive. She has a natural charisma that draws in people. Unlike Nadja, who is burdened by emotion, Talya prefers to live detached and emotionally distant. It allows her to remain unaffected by the emotions of others and allows her to be quite free-spirited. Talya never wanted to be locked down in one place like Nadja did. She had loved the unpredictable and had intended to travel before sickness took her.
  • Vulkruundor
    • Vulkruundor contains an ancient wisdom born of centuries of experience before his death. He, like Nadja, is a creature of deep thought and wisdom. He is often quiet, stoic, and contemplative unless his bonded master is threatened. Prior to his death, he was a guardian of cursed ancient lands, and he is now fiercely protective and territorial over Nadja.

Biography & Lore

It was a plague unlike any other sickness their tiny village had known. The elders of the village stated it was a curse placed thousands of years before then, placed on their ancestors for building on some forgotten sacred or cursed lands. The sickness was slow, spreading across the skin and tainting it with a sickly discoloration, sapping the victim of their vitality. There were no survivors of those infected, but victims had claimed nightmares of a spirit realm and dark shadowy entities lurking just beyond the veil of life. As the illness progressed, the victims seemed to fully submit to the spirit realm, binding their souls to the in-between lands. In its final stages, the victim's soul was severed from their body leaving a lifeless husk in its wake.

Village healers tried to cure Talya, but nothing could halt the sickness. As her illness advanced, she too saw the visions of the spirits and described the creates that no mortal could see. She fought hard, but lost her life in the arms of her twin sister, Nadja, two months after she fell ill. Her soul did not pass to the spirit realm, however. Instead, it fused with Nadja's creating a powerful connection between the sisters and between the realms.
