A mysterious discipline that favors cunning and deception over more overt magics, Mimicry is a field of magic that only recently has begun to emerge.

Background

Use

A fairly recent creation, or perhaps a rediscovery of lost potential, Mimicry is a new and burgeoning area of magic, and one of the few to rely on the power of nature for it's effects.

Per its namesake, Mimicry is based on replication and imitation, utilizing aspects of life and applying them to the user or others. Limited only by creativity and the traits it can replicate, Mimicry is a deceptively useful discipline. With no real creative or destructive power, its true capabilities are giving already dangerous individuals access to abilities they could only hope to emulate otherwise. The only abilities outside the reach of Mimicry are those whose origin lie in other arcane disciplines, or are simply too godly to call upon.

Price

All magic has a price, and the price of Mimicry is simple. In exchange for emulating the traits of nature, be it plant or animal, the caster must offer the origin of that aspect in tribute. In essence, it transfers the aspect to the caster or another recipient.

At its most grisly, Mimicry is akin to animal sacrifice, cutting apart and offering tribute the pieces of animals one wishes to add to their being. At its most subtle, a few leaves of a poisonous plant and a few incantations can give an untraceable poison.

The potency and duration are tied to the amount of material offered. One must be careful to balance the line between strength and longevity, lest they accidentally wield great power for only a fraction of a second.
