Merrahn, affectionately dubbed Meri, was born to the King and Queen of a small island in the Ákea'oma'o sea known as Seraah. As their third child her destiny should have been in her own hands, yet when she was still an infant she suffered from a life threatening disease which would change her fate entirely.

The Wind Elves of Seraaah are a people beholden to balance and the natural cycle of life above all else. They are renown for their peaceful nature and levelheadedness; some might see them as stoic, having a firm grasp on their emotions. They do their best to live their lives in accordance with the will of the universe, and believe that veering too heavily from this will leave them unbalanced - unnatural.

As such there were only so many methods her parents could pursue. Herbs and remedies did little to aid her, and soon enough they had exhausted their options. Her mother grieved in her own way but eventually she resigned herself to the cards they'd been dealt. In her eyes it was simply Meri's time to go.

Her father however was not so quick to give up hope. In fact many would say he outright refused to lose her. Knowing that the extent of his people's capabilities had already been tested, he used the cover of a particularly dark night to bring his child down to the ocean and there he lay her within the lapping waves.

Calling upon the Gods of the Ocean, the King of Seraah begged them to do as his own could not - to save his child. It did not matter what the cost was, he decided, he would pay it tenfold to see her grow.

Little did he know the price would not fall upon his head, but hers.

Meri was saved by the grace of the Goddess of the Moon, and her father never spoke of the methods he had used to make it so. For all intents and purposes it seemed as though the child had simply recovered, and the good people of Seraah felt blessed by her presence.

Over the years however Meri began to exhibit traits which were not in keeping with her people's way of life. She was deemed unbalanced, unruly, and far too emotional by their standards. When she began to speak of conversations had with long lost ancestors, and spirits of nature, that blessing was seen more as a curse.

Meri found herself more and more confined to the halls of their lofty home, out of sight and out of mind for their citizens, and as a result she drew inward. She'd spend more time alone, though in doing so she found herself all the more in touch with those who had already passed beyond the realm of the living.

In time she discovered ways to further interact with them, to make them matter once more. When her father caught her breathing life anew into the skeletal remains of some long since dead Wind Elf he realized the mistake he'd made that night on the shore. His daughter was alive, yes, but at what cost..?

Fearing the ultimate downfall of their civilization, the King of Seraah began to look at options which would take her away from their home. She could have her life, as he'd prayed for many moons ago, and they could keep their peace.

So it was that he began to look into marriage candidates...
