Matari No-tail
Appearance
Standing at the rather unimpressive height of 5'5'' for a male, Matari looks much like your average human, except for a few distinctive traits. His eyes are a bright, ruby red, and his teeth resemble those of a canine's more than they do a humanoid, sharpened and with highly distinguishable incisors that overlap one another. His hair is spiky and unruly, barely contained by a thick band he puts it in to create a ponytail down his back. He is often clad in thick, dark clothing lined with fox fur at the collar and a single cuff, but beneath it lies a heavily muscled and well disciplined work of art. Quite literally, in fact, as a large portion of his skin is dominated in artwork that is seemingly a part of him, most of which represent some aspect of nature, from its plants and flowers all the way to beasts and monsters. All of these cross over and form a tapestry of seamless blend of colour, successfully hiding the already barely visible marks and runes that are carved and seared into it, all over his body. The only place clear of either markings are his face, but even then, he often wears a similarly marked kabuki mask in order to hide his nature from others, something he gains no small amount of humour from. Upon his pack hangs a large, two handed battleaxe, blades upon both sides of the shaft. Simple steel and wood, with no special embellishments, it could be bought at any war-smiths.
Skills and Abilities
Blessing of the Wind: Matari is able to manipulate the air around him in order to achieve a variety of things, such as lifting objects, moving faster or increasing the sharpness of his axe. He can even hover, for a short period of time.
Missing Tails: Matari has had his tails sliced off years ago whilst he was a kitsune, and is thus unable to transform back into his true self or use the majority of his illusion magic until he retrieves all seven of them. So far he has two of them, stitched into his clothing which allow him some degree of finer manipulation, but until he retrieves the remaining five he is locked in to his demi-human form.
Axe Proficiency: Ever since he was reduced to his current form, Matari has had to found other ways to survive. The first weapon he managed to get his hands on was an axe, and since then the Kitsune has stubbornly stuck with the notoriously unwieldy weapon, determined to make it work. This determination has given him some skill and proficiency in using the weapon in combat.

Personality
Matari is a... bit of a brooder. Whilst he is perfectly capable of having a laugh and chatting with other people, his experiences have jaded him somewhat, and he will often spend long moments brooding to himself or mulling over memories, playing them back in his head and agonising over each and every detail. The only time he takes his mask off is when he turns towards his one true companion and friend in this world: Alcohol. When he's not fighting, travelling or sleeping, the kitsune can be found in the local tavern drinking more than any human has a right to in order to forget. Matari can also be rather overconfident in his abilities, unable to truly distinguish between his current self and who he used to be, stubbornly refusing to let go and bow down before any situation. Planning tends to be a foreign concept for the kitsune, preferring to simply rush into battle and improvise on the spot. This has earned him more than a few new scars, but he has yet to learn the error of his ways.
Biography & Lore
Matari was born within the Kitsune capital of Ki-Tamashii, deep within the wild and untamed parts of the Falwood and protected from the outside by the illusions their kind was well known for. It was a wild city of ancient, foreign architecture and long since forgotten temples, all of which were at least somewhat being reclaimed by the forest around them. For the early majority of his life, Matari grew up alongside the rest of the kits within the village, a rare child born with seven tails from birth, only outclassed by one other child, Myomyo, who was born with nine. The two displayed incredible magical talent, and were quickly put under the mentor ship of the village's most prominent mage. Despite the difference in number of tails, which typically represented one's magical ability, Matari quickly established that he far outclassed Myomyo when it came to... almost everything. While the nine tailed kitsune would do his best, and try harder than anyone in the village, Matari found himself soundly beating him in almost every challenge with little effort required, naturally talented in ways that had scarcely been seen before.
This success continued well into their early teen years, with Matari only growing more confident and taking glee in defeating his friend and rival Myomyo with each challenge and task given by his mentor, who would dote upon him, whilst, unbeknownst to him that same mentor would neglect and ignore his friend, who was left to fester and turn bitter towards his more talented friend. This anger would continue to fester and build, until it erupted in one final, climactic eruption. Matari was lured by his friend out past the boundaries of the village, goaded on to go deeper into the woods, into elf territory as Myomyo used his ego against him. Then, when they were far enough away, the nine tailed fox struck. Matari found himself trapped within a cage of the arcane, but instead of being able to instantly break free like he should have, there was something.. different. He couldn't access his magic. He was helpless. He called out towards Myomyo, asking him for help, but was met with only a sharp, searing pain at the base of his tails as his former friend began to rip them off.
One by one they were clawed, bitten, and pulled off. It was nothing short of torturous for Matari, but no one answered his screams for help or his curses and promises of vengeance as his body shifted and twisted, transforming as the magic within himself was unbalanced. Finally, the last was removed, and he was left a quivering wreck, naked and on the ground in his demi-human form. He quickly passed into unconsciousness. When he came to, he found himself powerless, weak, and stuck in a world that was foreign to him, as without his kitsune magic he could never hope to pierce the veil of his village, or even find it. The only fortunate occurrence was that due to his drastic shift in size, he had broken his restraints. He was free. Free to move. Free to stand. Free to run. And free to take his revenge.
He would find his tails. He would find Myomyo. or he would die.
