Loxa Visl
Appearance
At first glance Loxa is a threatening figure to contend with. Well muscled and strong for her size, her musculature is carved from a life spent scraping for everything she'd got. Loxa's hide is marked with scars from her years spent as a slave and, later on, the Apprentice to a very unforgiving Witch. Her head is crowned with a dredlocked mane. Her hair is a dark brown in color and quite long. Her eyes are likely the most distinguishing feature of the gnoll: a vibrant golden hue.Skills and Abilities
Loxa is a gifted sorceress whose present day skills primarily encompass beast control.Personality
Even-tempered. Loxa maintains a level head through dire straights. She's perceptive and keen on details. She has a mind for direction and directives.Dedicated. Her cause is her life. After her rescue from slavery by the Tera'terre Pirates, the gnoll has felt indebted to the leaders and has dedicated her life to paying her dues. She feels she owes them a life debt, and so intends to give herself to their cause.
Withdrawn. Loxa has a difficult time connecting with others and harbors little in the way of trust for any stranger.
Uneducated. Due to her early start in life as a Slave and the many subsequent years within that role, Loxa Visl did not receive a proper or orthodox education. She cannot read or do arithmetic, nor can she write, aside from the symbols and lines learned for Skarsovi Spells. Loxa is a capable navigator and has a good sense of direction and place. Though she can speak basic, it is broken at best requiring her to use a translator for more formal affairs. She's forgotten her own people's language but is fluent in the few dialects amongst the Skarsovi Witch Clans native to the Ixchel Wilds.
Mighty. Something to prove. She couldn't stand to be a burden on anyone therefore it is highly difficult for her to ask anyone for help.
Driven. A deep need is the major driving force for everything Loxa does in life but it's not something she will openly discuss.
Biography & Lore
Not much is known about Loxa Visl because Loxa Visl knows very little about herself. She was sold into slavery at a very young age, and though she doesn't seem to have suffered...much, she doesn't talk about her time as a slave. It was where she started her life as a slave. Most of those years she's blocked from her memory for various and obvious reasons, so when asked about her youth she typically begins on the day she was discovered by a Skarsovi Witch. This particular Witch, Loxa later learned, was a woman known as Sha'Matri Inhix, who upon laying eyes upon her forcibly coerced Loxa's owner into selling her. It had to do with Loxa's magic potential, Inhix told her. "You will be my greatest protegé."
Rigorous years, dark years, were spent in tutelage of the woman. Though if prompted to think back Loxa might say that those years had been no kinder than the many spent as a slave, she would never speak ill of them. She would never say a foul word of her Sha'Matri. Inhix was, by all means, a corrupted being laden by untold years spent delving into dark sorcery and black magics. She taught Loxa all she knew but how she came to live and rule this estranged Witch Clan, however, Loxa never would find out.
Flash forward about a decade and a group of people wielding a mighty army arrived. Descending upon the Ixchel Wilds, their numbers quickly infiltrated every corner of the lands, bringing settlement and city to heel. When at last they came upon the lands of the Sha'Matri and her clan, Inhix refused to give in. Though she had at one time been a prodigy of magic, Inhix was old and had spent the past decade pouring her powers into her student. Loxa watched, helpless, as they ended the reign of the Sha'Matri.
With her death so, too, went the source from which Loxa Visl drew her own magical powers. Seemingly without these abilities, Loxa was once again taken prisoner and made a slave to this force of people. Her new chains did not hold long, however, as her captors made way for the sea to continue their crusade. Many of them fell to disease and illness picked up in the Wilds and one faithful night the ship upon which Loxa resided was taken by a crew of wily creatures who called themselves the Tera'terre Pirates.
Given her strength and stature and her knowledge of the lands beyond, the Pirate Captain Lamarc freed Loxa in exchange for her sword. She sailed the seas with Lamarc for many years until the man died from grievous wounds received in battle.
