Lionel is a scrappy 5.6 foot 160 lbs man built with scrawny lithe muscles, who stands and presents himself like a demigod of strength and charisma. Garbed in patchwork black and grey leather armor (that he labels his cloak of shadows) with faded white cloth wraps around his forearms and wrists (that he calls his strength restrictors), this slum rat struts about the poorer districts of Alliria like a hero. He even proclaims to have an ancient legendary longsword! In truth, it's just a regular steel longsword, but the "Ancient magical runes" he's carved onto the fuller of the blade are convincing. . . to him

He might even look half-heroic with his heart-shaped face, rosy, if a bit dirty cheeks, emerald green eyes, confident eyebrows, and most importantly his iconic shoulder-length golden hair, double parted down the center and rigorously cared for. He's the spitting image of a prophesized king who's come to reclaim his distant throne, if you can ever believe anything he says.

Appearance

Lionel means to look a hero, even if everything about him physically inclines otherwise. He isn't exactly built like a pillar of strength, there isn't enough food in the slums to go around putting on muscle like some sort of Belgrath Berserker, but for what it's worth Lionel does have a strength to him. His muscles are lithe and tight to his body, favoring more agile and sly maneuvers of athleticism rather than powerful displays of pure strength (much to the "legendary warrior's" dismay).

His face is similarly scrappy. With a heart-shaped freckled face, small, somewhat crooked-at-the-bridge nose, and dull-green eyes, he looks like the kind of squire that would carry around a real hero's sword. The most story-book heroic thing about him though is his hair. Shoulder-length and wavy golden locks spill from a rigorously maintained middle part, and when it's not flowing majestically in the Allirian breeze, Lionel is brushing or combing it so it does.

In terms of what he wears, he claims his attire is meant to represent "the common downtrodden folk of Alliria, just trying to get by". In truth, his set of patchwork leather armor is all he can afford. With a leather gambeson coat checkered a drab gray and black with long, flowing sleeves, a pair of almost black leather gloves, faded white cloth wraps around his forearms leather pads upon his knees and elbows, and a pair of travel-tested steel toed boots, he looks more like the kind of small-time grunt a real hero would utterly destroy on their heroic quest. The steel longsword he wields is a similar mockery. It's a regular steel longsword with up pointed crossguard and an octagonal pommel, but Lionel has carved what he claims are "ancient magical runes" upon the blade with a spare rock. They do not do anything ancient, or magical, but they do look pretty in a sort of childish way.

Skills and Abilities

Lionel is a master swordsman in the same way a con-man is a businessman. He's not exactly a master swordsman, and most of his time is spent trying to convince people he is an unbested blademaster (despite the fact he has been bested publicly multiple times), but there is something of a skill in there. He can fight, his style is unpolished and lacks training, but there's enough tested "swordsmanship" to prove him a decent swordsman. Not a great or good one, but a decent swordsman.

When he's not blatantly lying about being one heroic thing or another, he's competent about misleading and deceiving others. In fact he's a decently convincing liar when talking about pretty much anyone but himself.

He's a true outer-city Allirian slum-rat. Anything vaguely skullduggery or scoundrel related, he's competent at. Sneaking around, moving fast and agile in urban or difficult environments, hiding, picking locks and pockets. He's done it all and he can hold his own just below the best of them.

Lionel's greatest ability is his courage. Whether through stupidity or plain ol' nerves of steel, Lionel is able to face the horrors and fear-inducing elements of the world without a qualm or a flinch. In times he is genuinely afraid (Few as they come, mainly because he's too stupid to realize he should be afraid of something), he's a decent enough liar to hold up a poker-face and appear like he is unphased. After all, what kind of hero would actually appear afraid?

Personality

Lionel will tell and present himself to anyone he meets as brave chivalric hero, interested in going on cavalier quests and adventures to slay dragons and save handsome princes, princesses, and displaced royalty abound. He never holds himself in anything less than an obnoxiously confident and loud state of being, and that his voice is a blessing to anybody who hears it, so why should he bother being quiet?

He's proud in a playful sense, always proclaiming how great he is in every single facet imaginable. If someone ever challenges him on his claims, he will accept whatever challenge they put fourth, for what hero would ever deny a chance to prove their worth? If he succeeds, he handles it with the upmost of grace by immediately proclaiming how he knew he would succeed. He's a legendary hero after all. If he fails, he will vigorously praise and compliment whomever or whatever has bested him, for they surely must be a mighty thing to best Lionel "Glorious" Leonhardt in whatever challenge hath been brought before him.

Strangely enough - even more so for an Allirian - he has little interest in money or material gains. He will loudly deny any money offered to him in any scenario, often only accepting direct gifts like food, housing, concrete items, but never will he accept a currency of any kind. He will proudly deny that an amazing hero such as him needs no wealth, and that whatever time a rich man would spend counting their coins, he could spend "studying the blade" or "heroically saving royalty from towers in the middle of no where".

This is how Lionel presents himself to Arethil at large, as a comical character of the classical hero.

But of course, only an idiot would trust anything Lionel says about himself.

Biography & Lore

Lionel has several differing backstories depending on who's asking and when. Sometimes he's a long-lost heir to a throne, hoping to become skilled enough so that he may redeem his ancestry. Other times he's a simple farm boy who a magical advisor spirited away for one prophecy or another (usually these backstories involve a prophecy, because of course). Other times he's an accomplished hero who "Just so happens to be in town", and that his long list of deeds simply hasn't reached this part of Arethil yet.

Nevertheless, no matter what story he tells you at first, he'll always tell you a different story every time you ask him.
