Leon Octavian
Appearance
Octavian like the other few Highlanders alive or active on Arethil are either Human or Elven in face structure. From just appearance Octavian would look like a very tall, lean, muscular fighter with dark auburn hair and bright gold eyes. Heavily Scarred from a life of fighting, it is rare for anyone to actually see him not in full plate armor. Like other Highlanders of old, as the eclipses come closer Octavian is more easily identified as something other then Human. His hair glows a golden red, The mark of Sol appears upon his forehead and markings of the sun appear on his body.
Skills and Abilities
Octavian like most Highlanders are Sword Masters. They carry multiple swords on them at all times, including their ancestral sword. Octavian's is a massive two handed sword called Dragol which can't be wielded by anyone outside of his bloodline. Octavian wears a dragon inspired plate helm with full plate armor. As with other Highlanders they have endless stamina while above ground during the day, around fire, or close to intense heat. Octavian is immune to fire, and has true sight through darkness or inflicted blindness. He however is extremely weak against freezing spells and most magic that don't affect mind/sight/fire.
Octavian like most Highlanders cannot access any sort of magic, they receive what they call Sol's blessings. Or the Blood Song. Sol's Blessings upon the highlanders are the following. Immunity to sight affecting magic, Immunity to mental affecting magic, Immunity to fire. The Blood Song is a daily combat trance that lets them transcend most physical capabilities. Time seems to slow for them as they receive a rush of energy from the Sun. They can swing any and all swords on their body rapidly for up to 12 strikes. During this time they regenerate any small wounds, and are capable of stopping projectiles with their blades. Blood Song can only be activated while in the presence of the Sun.
The day before an Eclipse happens Highlanders are at their most powerful, this is vital due to what happens during an eclipse. The day before they are in a 24 hour period of Blood Song, or called Divine Sword by the few outsiders that have seen a highlander enter this state. Their swords turn into pure energy and up to 9 form and levitate behind them, 3 per eclipse of the year. During this state is the only time a highlander lives up to the legends of them being able to face down 10-15 armed men by themselves. As each sword can be controlled by thought in both attack and defense.
The Eclipse: As soon as the Eclipse happens, every Highlander outside of the mysterious Cult of Lesset, falls into a sleep stasis. Their power and life is derived from the power of "Sol" or the Sun. Whatever magic or gods blood flows through the veins of Highlanders cause them to immediately go into this stasis as soon as the eclipse happens. This has been the leading cause of the extinction of the species. Some do not wake when the eclipse is over, and instead continue to slumber in whatever area they found to hide.

Personality
Octavian has known nothing but a life of solitude, no family, his friends tend to die of age. He could drop into stasis on an eclipse and not wake for days, years, decades, or even centuries. He tends to keep to himself, and beyond everything upholds the Code of Arms that the house Octavian inked into his skin with Sol's fire. He protects the realms of men, elves, and all the other races. He fights with honor, only to shed blood in glory of combat. He strives to annihilate the Cult of Blood, the stain upon his house and race.
This makes for a young brash man, one who is loyal to those who need him, one who doesn't open up to others. One who has a massive amount of scars not only on his body, but his mind. For a life as long and lonely as his only truly seeks an end to his duty, and the ability to rest in peace.
Some see him as a living god. Some a freak mutated by magic from a long lost era. Some a sad creature with no home or family. Others perhaps see something else in his golden eyes, a truth that perhaps life isn't meant to be so long.

Biography & Lore
Highlanders: Myths and Legends that Walk Among Us.
Written by Scholar and Explorer, Cadicus Reeves.
Well, here I am. Freezing my balls of trekking across the Seret Mountains at night. Might not be The Spine but gods forbid some poor soul do us all a favor and find a portal stone deeper in this mountain range. You may be asking, Why dear Cadicus are you traveling in this mountain range with hired guards a few guides and smelly mules? Well to chase a legend. The fools at the College think that Highlanders are myth, some fantasy the villagers and townsfolk whisper about. Or some report from a delirious soldier. Waved away as someone using magic getting confused as some giant sized man who glows of the divine. Yet I know that myth tends to be based in fact. Divine? Hah, fools and sheep of religion would believe in the divine. No I have a feeling that these Highlanders are an ancient species with long life spans like the elves. Still, we will see if these reported ruins hold any facts for this book.
My hands are trembling while I write this entry, this could be one of the most important historical sites found in my generation. The cave in which the goat shepherds had been reported of having what seemed to be giant carved statues, a man and women with swords resting in the ground. What made this peak my interest was that it was reported that they had a glyph that shinned on their foreheads that was in the shape of the sun. And intricate script in glowing letters across their arms and legs. What the backwater goat shepherds left out was the fact that this wasn't a cave but a cavern. The statues are massive, you could build a castle out of the stone these are made from! I am trying to get our team to tunnel into the shin of one of these and see if perhaps it is hollowed out when they built them. I sent a servant with a small team to report my findings to the guild. Hopefully they will be back within a few months.
I could barely get away to even write this, so much to see! So much to record! We broke into one of the statues to find intricate rooms, spirally upwards towards the head of the statue. It seems some sort of bared chamber is up there, sadly we have not been able to open it yet. However it's not all sad news! Murals written in the same golden light shine all over the walls. As far as I have been able to reckon, these show of an ancient time when the Highlanders first came here. Massive dragons seemed to hatch from the Sun, carrying massive cities on their backs while smaller dragon kind wove around these massive behemoths. The Highlanders radiating upon their backs as they rode and lived upon them!
I've learned more from the Murals, it seems that this race worshiped the Sun... Sol? Soul? I'm not sure, it seems like whatever deity they believed in gave them life and the dragons the ability to harness elemental fire. What is more concerning is that it seems like they had sects, some are shown with flowing white hair, moon crescents, and elemental rings on their fingers. It seems like they could use the warmth of the moons light to harness magic instead of whatever powers this race had gotten from the sun. Clearly impossible, still very fascinating that this ancient race believed they came from the Sun.
We have progressed in opening the chamber, I've researched the last of the murals... They are disturbing. They depict a massive civilization during what I can only assume is the first eclipse. They all fell into some sort of slumber, however the mural continues. In the darkness that fell over them the Blood Stars began to shine. Corrupting and driving them mad as they slept. When they awoke a massive civil war took place. The blood shed shown was horrific. Dark twisted, bloody, things reaped and devoured their kin. Consuming the light and power of other Highlanders. Massive battles that saw the gigantic dragons all die in fierce aerial clashes between the two highlander factions. I am unsure of how much of this is true, but it shows almost 90% of this civilization being killed off in a blink of an eye. Either through the war or by suicide from losing their dragons and loved ones. The last bit it shows very few build warrior tombs next to the corpses of the felled dragons. Are these murals stating the dragons of old possible formed the mountain ranges of our time? Still, it seems we have stumbled upon a tomb not a wonder of a lost civilization. I have a bad feeling about this.
Not long for this world.
Blood, only ink.
Collapsed cavern.
A shadow, a demon, evil in that tomb.
Burn this book, tell no one of this race.
Let them be forgotten.
