Created thousands of years ago by the most powerful Sand Elf Pharoah who ever lived, the rings of Amon-Thun are named after their creator and those who wield them have power which is terrible to behold. Before one can understand the Ten Rings of Amon-Thun, it is first necessary to understand the way those in Amol-Kalit view the Soul. The soul, or spirit, of a person is divided into eight essential parts, with each having a specific name. Thus, the names of the rings are the names of the parts of the spirit over which they have control.

Description

  • Ring of Kha:
    • This ring is gold set with emerald and enhances the wielder’s physical abilities. Once per day, it allows the bearer to perform incredible feats of strength for a limited duration, often only as short as a duel, or a single herculean act. After this, the ring cannot be activated again as it must recharge its power from ambient energy.
  • Ring of Lesser Ko:
    • This is a silver ring set with an onyx stone and it allows the wielder the ability to perceive and communicate with the shades of the dead, even when they seek to remain hidden, but not to summon them. Unlike other rings, this ring’s effect is constant.
  • Ring of Greater Ko:
    • This is a gold ring set with a black opal and it allows the wielder to compel the obedience of the dead. The more dead who are commanded, the more the ring is drained. After being completely drained, the ring cannot be activated again as it must recharge its power from ambient energy.
  • Ring of Akhu:
    • This is a gold ring set with a diamond and it allows the bearer to have direct control over their Akhu, their immortal will. Wielders of the Ring of Akhu may influence beings or objects with their mind, going so far as to pulverize rock with a thought, or dominate the mind of another and rip from them hidden thoughts. As with other rings, the effects are not limitless. The power in the ring is drained proportional to the effect sought. Thus, dominating a mind or pulverizing a boulder would drain the ring for the entire day, while shoving a creature or whispering a thought would only drain part of the ring. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Sahu:
    • This is a silver ring set with a garnet and it allows the bearer control over the elements, or the “Sahu.” In Amol-Kalit, the spiritual body “Sahu” is thought to be made up of different elements. Flesh is clay and sand. Blood is water. The heart is fire. And so on and so forth. Those who wield the ring of Sahu can command the elements by creating a sand golem, conjuring a fire elemental from the hearth, or simply casting a fireball or a spear of ice. The power in the ring is drained proportional to the effect sought and the nearby elements. Thus, if one wishes to conjure a water elemental in the midst of a desert, the ring will be drained instantly. However, if one wishes to create a human-shaped golem of sand from sand, then the ring will not be entirely drained. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Sekhem:
    • This is a gold ring set with a ruby and it allows the bearer control over Sekhem, or the life force of the spirit. It is thought to be the source of all Heka, which is what those in Amol-Kalit call magic. Very powerful sorcerers, such as the Thakathi, can rip the Sekhem from others and use it to fuel their magic and keep them eternally young. The ring of Sekhem can be used in terrifying ways. It can rip the vitality of others from them and give it to the bearer. Thus, if the bearer was on the brink of death, they might rip away the vitality of another being, shriveling them into a desiccated corpse, in order to heal a grievous wound. However, such an act would drain the ring instantly. The ring can also be used to grant some of the bearer’s vitality to another, though this will age the wearer proportional to the amount of vitality given. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Khaibit:
    • This is a gold ring set with a blue sapphire and it allows the bearer control over their own Khaibit, which is the projected spirit. While wielding the ring of Khaibit, the bearer can cast their mind and presence across vast distances. However, energy is drained from the ring proportional to the distance traveled. One may indeed cast their spirit from one end of Arethil to the other, but this would drain the ring instantly. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Bah:
    • This is a gold ring set with a pearl and allows the wielder control over their Bah, or animal spirit. The concept that the spirits of people have animal counterparts is common in Amol-Kalit and thus this ability was imbued into the ring. The Bah ring allows the wielder to shapeshift themselves and others, with the effects sought proportional to the amount the ring is drained. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Abu:
    • This is a gold ring set with an amethyst and allows the wielder control over the Abu, which is the heart, the center of morality. While wielding the ring of Abu, the bearer can detect the emotions of others. The wielder can also attempt to influence their emotions while using the ring, but this will drain the ring in proportion to the effect sought. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
  • Ring of Ren
    • This is an electrum ring set with a yellow sapphire and is called the Ring of Ren. It is the most powerful of all the rings, for Ren is what is considered to be the true name of a being. Once the Ren of another is known to a person, that person can dominate or destroy them simply by speaking their Ren. Bearers of the Ring of Ren are capable of discerning a true name, but only one. If they choose to dominate or destroy that being, then the Ring of Ren is drained for the day. If they do not choose to do anything, then they will eventually forget the Ren of the being, for it is only by the ring’s power that the bearer can hold the Ren in their mind. It takes a full day when drained for the ring’s gem to recover ambient energy.
