Amulet of Dahaka
There is a serpent who dwells in the deep sands and she is said to be the greatest of her kind, rivaling even the chosen vessel of the Dread One that sits in His temple. When Arethil was young, she became at odds with a powerful enchanter whose lover she had devoured. The enchanter knew he could not kill Dahaka with a blade, for her scales were like many overlapping shields. Nor could he strike her with down with a thunderbolt, for many had tried and left only smoking scars on her, while they themselves had been eaten. So instead, he fashioned an amulet that bound her to its bearer, enabling them to summon and command Dahaka. Then he lured Dahaka into his town with taunts. She proceeded to destroy and consume the entire town, but this was as the enchanter had planned, for the death of the town would fuel the creation of the amulet’s bond with the town’s consumer. And thus was the amulet of Dahaka formed.
It is an electrum oval, with a serpent’s head in relief upon it and two green gemstones for the serpent’s eyes.
Before the enchanter could wield the amulet, he perished from a dose of Dahaka’s venom. His final command was to send Dahaka into the deepest part of the desert. After his death, the amulet became lost to time. Re-surging every so often and causing terrible calamity before eventually disappearing again.
It is said that Dahaka is a serpent so large that she can simply slither over a city’s walls and her fangs are nearly as long as a man is tall and dripping with acidic venom.
