Biography & Lore
Lamik's family history is quite unclear. His mother, half-human and half-nocturnal elf had always remained tight-lipped about her life before his birth, responding to inquiries with nothing but a quick deflection and an occasional sad look. His father, a Fae, was equally reluctant to speak, though this seemed to merely come from a deep-rooted hatred of dwelling on the past.
This odd ancestry has granted Lamik a strange set of traits, some more pleasant than others. His appearance is mostly that of a human but for the slightly pointed ears and the subtle patches of greyish-blue around the eyes, neck, and fingers. From his mother, he also received an especially sensitive case of clairsentience, granting him a knack for identifying the properties of various metals and minerals. From his father, however, he inherited a weakness to iron: the metal leaves something akin to burns on the man's skin when in contact for more than a minute or so.
Growing up, Lamik worked for several years as a blacksmith's apprentice. At first, he clad himself head to toe in thick leather to allow him to work with the iron involved. However, the blacksmith, an old family friend named Iserelle, recognized that he had a talent with metals, and soon managed to acquire highly specialized tools that were made of safe materials. It was then that Lamik's singular true talent manifested. Very quickly coming to understand the properties of bronze and copper, the young man found himself capable of forging weaponry of relatively high quality. Gold, silver, and other precious metals were just as intuitive, shaping into jewelry and decorations without much effort. They were not the works of a master, of course, but they were good for someone so young.
It was not long after that Lamik decided to set out. He had an art form to perfect, one that he was truly passionate about, and one that could fund his expenses. There was no true end goal, at least not at first, but one could always be found.
