Kouri, Duskborn.

Kouri, Duskborn.

Biographical information
Kouri's species were conceived by a Spirit Oak, an ancient kind of towering flora bridging the planes of the physical and spiritual. Nature spirits like Kouri were born as a result of the Oak's nature, serving as bridges and mouthpieces of the Spirit Oak as it maintained the peace and health of the forests it grew over.

Kouri's own was no differernt, only the circumstances that followed after.
As of current events, the tree spirit is barely weeks, if not a month old in all aspects. Temporally preserved by the machinations of Tenrof, the youngling All the forests call to Kouri, for he was born of a great mother oak, one that once commanded entire nations of trees and nature, long before the current age.
Physical description
A nature spirit, dubbed 'Duskborn', by Tenrof. A long extinct species, originating from flora that possessed powerful ties to the supernatural. Their true name is already long lost to history. Kouri's own Duskborn title simply marks the events surrounding the spirit's own birth. As a nature spirit, and a literal infant at that, Kouri does not have any notion of gender whatsoever.
Political information
Currently the (unknowing) warden of Tenrof, the specter whom was entrusted with its essence at the moment of Kouri's conception. Carrying an amulet on its back that carries the specter's one anchor to the world, it wanders, following hints or clues that could hopefully coporealize Tenrof back into the World, at the specter's own encouraging.

Provided the Herald does not prevent it first.

A bright, cheery youngling with all the hallmarks of innocence, Kouri 'Duskborn', is a unique nature spirit with a long and ancient heritage. Born from a Spirit Oak, it was to oversee the forests beneath the grand tree's shade with its brethren, nurturing and tending the spiritual pathways of the lands, as well as reinforcing the Spirit Oak's own ties to the supernatural planes.

But through a contract by a certain Shadow, it was spirited away at the moment of conception, a precaution of sorts, should its parent Oak ever fall. Now wandering Arethil, under the specter's occasional guidance and supervision, the spirit is without purpose, simply finding joy in its existence among the many denizens of this land.

Appearance

One could imagine a white, glowing squirrel, and it would be an apt enough description of the youngling spirit. Barely reaching up to a full grown man's shin even standing on its hind feet. But it is no canine. Instead of paws it has two hind cloven hooves, with its arms and hands remarkably similar to humans. Its black beady eyes shimmer with both innocence and intelligence, with several long feelers protuding from its head and spine serving as additional receptors of senses in the realms spiritual, physical, and inbetween.

At night, particularly in dense forest areas, its entire body gleams with ethereal light, reacting to the abundance of nature surrounding it. At night, it is a haunting sight. Almost comparably to tree wisps in this regard. When flexing its yet, untrained abilities of spiritual manipulation, the faint glow intensifies to a glaring flash for an instant.

Of particular note is the amulet strapped to the spirit's back, mostly concealed in an illusion. Gleaming a pallid viridiscent when the veil lifts for brief moments, it is out of place on the spirit's body, given its size. But it is less an object, and more an anchor for Kouri's ward. A conduit for the Shadow to interact with the World he was banished from.

Skills and Abilities

Unusual Agility

-
Even for its size, Kouri boasts a swiftness and agility superior to animals of a similar size, and even some who are far more physically imposing. As it finds its home in forests, preferring thick foliage and trees, such a skill seems to come naturally to Kouri.
- But it is not restricted to forests, as it can navigate even through bustling cities and towns without much difficulty, provided it knows where it is going. But given its appearance it tends to stick out in such environments.

Spiritual Manipulation

- Also innate to its species in addition to their agility, but due to Kouri's age it does not have much control over the ability. It can only expel what spirit energy it can gather in a brief, but blinding flash to disorient foes to make a quick getaway.
- An alternative is for Tenrof himself to exert his powers through the amulet Kouri carries, but his influence is sometimes too weak, other times too intense, prone to manifesting in physical or psychic outbursts that, again, only serve to help Kouri make a quick getaway in dire times. He can also exert his own consciousness through said anchor, and converse with any who may take an interest in Kouri itself. However, he can only do so after direct, physical contact with the spirit is made, and said contact must be constantly maintained for him to continue conversation.

Nature's Attunement

- Perhaps the most used of Kouri's talents, the spirit is highly in tune with nature and the many creatures that make such environments their home. Capable of conversing with such animals, he can instill an ability to temporarily enlighten them. Ranging from fellow critters such as squirrels, mice, to even great Bears and birds of prey, they are instilled intelligence, and a limited ability to converse, with Kouri itself as a mouthpiece.
- Kouri itself is also considered a friendly entity to all wildlife by instinct, allowing it to also 'tame' creatures for either quick transport or as a distraction.

Personality

Kouri is innocent and pure, yet still in the very infant stages of its life. Even with Tenrof keeping watch over the youngling, Kouri is very much an overactive child in all aspects. Never staying in one place, neither favoring a particular setting, the creature of nature likes to wander in search of adventure, inquisitive yet naive. Unable to converse in tongues, it prefers Tenrof convey its thoughts and emotions through direct contact.

Biography & Lore

Uncountable centuries before Arethil's current age, when there were no civilizations of man, but a kingdom ruled by beast and nature together, there were grand, towering pillars named Spirit Oaks. Born atop powerful nexuses of magical or spiritual power, these trees bridged across planes of existence to link the supernatural with the physical, imbuing the beasts with a higher intelligence, and nurturing the lands beneath its shade.

To assist in this mighty endeavour were the spirits born of its leaves. Their names long forgotten, they were a living representation of the Spirit Oak's link to the supernatural, and established leylines along which the Oak's roots would travel, and reach even further distances.

Born of one such Spirit Oak, Kouri was whisked away at the moment of its conception, kept under the watchful eye of Tenrof himself, when he yet tread among men and beasts. Finally brought into being amid the acrid deserts of Amol Kalit, it has now ventured past Elbion and into the wilderness.
