Out-of-character information

The Kitsune are a magical sentient race of fox like creatures, they use magic to create illusions and change their form to that of humans, using animals and blood to power the magic to seduce humans and elves.

Not much about them is known by the other races as they tend to stay secluded, only sending out the half breeds to the rest of the world when they want to trade with the outside world or collect treasures and exotic foods.

Overview

Language

The kitsune have their own language of howls, barks and clicks that also use body language but are smart enough to learn and mimic human speech. Though living in the Falwood they also learned Elvish to lure both species to seduce or eat them if food is low.
The half breeds are taught these languages before they are allowed to leave the dens and villages but struggle to learn the kitsune native tongue without the correct vocal parts.

Appearance

A kitsune's true form is that of a tall, elegant, multi-tailed fox. They generally have 1 to 9 tails.
The higher the number of tails, the more uncommon such a kitsune becomes. While a kitsune can be born with any number of tails, it is known that the number can increase with age or wisdom, but not necessarily.
They also come in various different colours, usually solid or with countershading. Most commonly kitsune are born coloured red, orange or brown, uncommonly gray, creamy or black and very rarely as pure snow white and extraordinarily rare with a shiny, golden pelt. Kitsune tend to inherit their fur colur from their parents.
A purebred kitsune has multiple forms, their true is that of a fox, but they can also take on a half-fox half-humanoid form that merges their natural look with a desired humanoid shape.
When a kitsune shapeshifts, poisons and toxins or any substance that can cloud a kitsune's focus can muddy the shapeshift efficiency and ultimately prematurely end it. Spells also have the ability to banish a shapeshifted appearance.
Halfbreed kitsune however appear only in their half-fox shape, combing traits of both their parents, they also on average have a lesser amount of tails, usually half that of their fox parent.

Habitat

They live in small clans, far from any signs of civilisation. Sometimes they form propper villages, especially when they have a high population of half-kitsune.
But often enough they live in magical groves, unblemished by tools of any form.

Traits

  • All kitsune are inheritingly magical, posessing inate ability to shapeshift and produce charming spells.
  • It is not uncommon for kitsune to excel at the arcane arts of magery.
  • Pure kitsune can turn into a half-kitsune, half-humanoid shape or take on a fully humanoid shape of their desire, indiscriminate of their apeparance or gender.
  • With age or wisdom, kitsune can grow extra tails.
  • It has been noted that Kitsune seem to have a racial... weakness for alcohol, both in being able to hold it and in their attraction for it. They can become somewhat addicted, and it doesn't take much to make them drunk.
  • Halfbreed kitsune however can only shapeshift in other various humanoid races.

History

Background

Kitsune do not record their history and most of it has been lost in the past.

Lore

Kitsune are not like most other races that can easily be conversed with, they hold up a more unique and mysthical visage to most other races, seeming more like a creature our of folklore. So it is not uncommon that most people fear-respect them.
