Once a respected member of both the Assembly and the Summer Court, Kharis loyally served as Inquisitor and military advisor to two Queens. Kharis was stripped of everything -- his titles, his holdings, his rank, and even his family -- after being exiled by Titania for openly insulting her leadership abilities, leaving him without the resources to fulfill the purpose Shaevwa bestowed upon him.

Appearance

Kharis neither adheres to the beauty standard of the Duanann, nor could he. Towering over most others in his species, he is a large and imposing man that easily looks down upon those below him. Kharis carries himself with all of the confidence befitting a Duanann, even after being exiled. His movements are deliberate and precise.

Kharis has a very masculine appearance and is far too brawny to compete with many of his androgynous peers when it comes to attractiveness. Embracing this deviation from the norm, Kharis gladly chooses to brandish a thick moustache instead of hiding the unsightly facial hair he naturally grows.

Dark red hair and slate blue eyes are the most conventional features that Kharis possesses. Or rather they were, before Titania took one of his eyes.

Duanann Affinity

Absolute Truth
While the majority of fae are unable to speak direct lies, they are often able to twist and bend truths to fit their needs or desires. This does not hold true for Kharis. He is incapable of deception in any form. Unlike other fae, Kharis cannot stretch truths or even use the most basic of glamours.

Due to his affinity, Kharis is acutely aware of the lies of others in his vicinity. Kharis is unable to pick out details of lies in a statement, only that the truth has been manipulated. He hears a distinct ringing in his mind when he hears not only a falsehood, but even an attempt to dance around the truth. The more overt the lie, the louder the ringing. Unfortunately for Kharis, that effect can be compounded by hearing multiple lies simultaneously.

He considers his affinity more of a curse than a blessing, but is determined to use it to serve the Summer Court’s best interests.

Skills and Abilities

Kharis’ power exists on a daily cycle instead of the seasonal cycles or celestial phenomenon that most other fae follow. His magickal power mirrors both the sun's zenith and nadir. When the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, his abilities are at their most potent. Alternatively, at the deepest part of the night, Kharis finds himself without even the most basic of magick and is, effectively, mortal.

Personality

Above all else, Kharis is dedicated to The Summer Court. He vehemently believes that any court that opposes or stands apart from the True Court is guilty of heresy and under the influence of imposters and Banished Gods.

A devout Summerlander, he believes he was created for the purpose of uniting those wayward courts and to lead those that stray from Shaevwa and Rii’ii back to the Summerlands. Kharis’ faith is absolute in the belief that every creature, no matter their importance, was created exactly as they were meant to. His status as a Duannan of the Assembly only serves to solidify his belief in his importance and purpose.

He does not kill his adversaries -- according to the tenets of his faith -- and chooses, instead, to maim them and leave them entirely anodyne.

Because of his affinity (and superiority complex), he is often blunt and does not have the social aptitude that is required to be a part of court politics. He has no taste for it, or for the many social gatherings that he is pressured into attending. He finds large groups unpleasant, for half-truths abound when fae gather in numbers. Often, he seeks solitude and the quiet respite throughout any function he is required to participate in to ease the ringing in his head. He also finds dealing with ‘lesser fae’ and mortals extremely taxing and avoids it whenever possible.

Biography & Lore

Growing up as the second born and male heir to a house of the Assembly, Kharis never had aspirations to become a courtier. He used his aspiration to aid in his older sister’s endeavors to grow the family’s holdings, but was eager to leave the complexities of politics and business. Kharis jumped at the chance to serve as a soldier in the Summer Court when the first war broke out.

His efforts in turning the tide of one particularly hopeless battle helped to distinguish him from his peers. Eventually he was summoned by Queen Norra to verify the armistice between Summer and Winter and his services helped solidify him as a member of the queen’s military council. After the queen’s death, Kharis served under Titania, but he quickly realized she was not like her late mother. After offering several dissenting opinions on Queen Titania’s policies and strategies, Kharis’ obligation to speak unadulterated truth served to be his downfall. Openly insulting the young queen’s intelligence and leadership abilities not only led to the loss of his eye as punishment, but also the loss of everything he held dear -- all his assets, ties to his family, and position in the Summer Court.

Now an exile, Kharis is searching for a means to fulfill his purpose.
