First and foremost, Kael is a fraud, alive only by divine luck.

Kael was born to a goblin shamaness in a tribe of unremarkable history, and learned early he had a talent for shapeshifting magic. An opportunist, Kael used this talent for infiltrating villages and determining their defenses before his tribe would conduct a heist or raid. One day Kael missed that a dreadlord was stationed at an Anirian village. When the raid was signaled the Dreadlord killed Kael’s entire tribe. Kael was almost murdered as well, but shifted into the shape of a human child and convinced the dreadlord he was a human. Rather than being left as an orphan, Kael was taken to the Academy to become a dreadlord himself. Kael now lives in fear wearing a foreign skin everyday, while training as an infiltrator to fight for someone else’s king.

Kael’s appearance changes dramatically and frequently. His “Home” skin is green and leathery, but he hasn’t worn it it nearly five years. His most frequent appearance is that of a teenage boy with short brown hair, brown eyes, and musculature that indicates fitness but not a talent for strength. Kael’s eyes carry a hardy look that could be described as glum, fearful, or deed.

- Shapeshifting Magic: Kael can alter his shape to be any number of disguises. He can notably grow larger or smaller than his normal form, but is limited in this. He can be as small as an adult raven, but not a mouse. Similarly he can be as large as a short orc, but not an ogre.
- Dreadlord Initiate Training: Kael has training with a wide suite of weapons and armor, including swordsmanship, archery, knife throwing, etc
- Infiltrator Training: Kael’s magic lends to infiltration rather than front lines combat, so he’s received training in stealth, poison making, lock picking, anatomy, etc.

Kael is generally reserved and untrusting. Those with extreme emotional understanding, such as through magic, will also detect that Kael is generally in a state of fear. Like most teenagers, he has no idea what he wants to do with his life, but he does know he wants out.
