The Grey family has long lived in the Village of Stowe, known as the healers from generation to generation. One of the last villages at the base of the Spine and a main path leading up through the famous peak Smuggler’s Notch. The main road to the village has a short season before the roads essentially shut down for the long winter of the area. Only the most brave or foolish travelers pass through during what’s considered the off-season. The village prides itself in trade getting its main food source from a medium, glacial-fed lake and the game in the area.

Juniper or ‘Jun’ has one older brother who immediately left, seeking more beyond their trading village when he was of age. She also has one younger sister, Daisy. Juniper's relationship with her mother was tenuous at best. Her mother was a lady from Alliria and somehow found her way to their small village, married off to their father. She considered his class far below hers and their marriage fueled the village gossip for a decade. She always wanted more for her daughters and had strict standards for how a lady should act. Juniper failed the high set bar, more like her father. Adventurous, not afraid of the dark wood around their village, and apt at picking up tracking, hunting, and foraging skills. It was a good thing Daisy came along, the sligher, quieter, gentle, and more refined girl fell perfectly into their mother's mold.

Unfortunately, their mother died a few years ago due to a disease that ravaged the village. Even the Grey patriarch, being a renown healer for the area, was unable to save her. He loved her, despite her ambivalence toward him. And he blames himself, turning toward reclusivity, alcohol, and depression.

Juniper bears the burden of taking care of her father and younger sister as well as healing for the village and has the scars along her face to prove it.
