Paul Joseph Meier
The strangest lord the Winter Court has ever seen. A short, furious creature who was once a human…now gifted with one of the most terrifying powers of any Fae Court.
‘Behold, a Maelstrom.’ - Iren, King of the Silent Court
Appearance
Joseph is small, both in physique and in height. He looks like someone a ten year old might throw over one shoulder. His clubbed foot is kept supported by an iron brace, three tongues of steel running up the back of his calf and on either side of his ankle, ending just below the knee. These are padded in leather, and give him some ambulatory ability. Without this brace, Joseph is barely able to walk and suffers extraordinary agony if he attempts to do so.
His face is gaunt, with thin lips, high cheekbones, and a narrow nose. His large eyes and dark lids lend to an absolutely terrifying death glare. Joseph's eyes are large and brown, the color of newly-varnished walnut. The dark, bruised-looking flesh around his eyes makes them appear lighter. When they catch just the right light, they can appear hazel. He has short black hair, cropped short to his head and swept back from his forehead. He prefers to keep it slicked down with wax. He's fairly vain about his hair, believing it to be one of his few decent physical qualities.
Skills and Abilities
Amalgamation: Being transformed by another fae from human into fae has given him a deep well of magic. Joseph is a river that runs deep and powerful, and likely to improve with age.
Humble Beginnings: Joseph was raised in Floiland in a horse farm, and shows demonstrable skill with anything stable related. He can chop wood, haul game, cook, clean, and shows enjoyment in these tasks.
Sommelier: Joseph has gained enormous experience with wine, in particular mulberry wine. He owns several orchards inherited from his late wife.
Shapeshifting: Joseph can change into practically any living form he chooses. The catch being the more outlandish the form the less time he can spend in it. He retains the twisted foot throughout any form.
Personality
Joseph is in possession of a vicious temper. Because his clubbed foot keeps him in constant agony, his temper frays extremely quickly. Though he may be difficult to handle, when a person earns Joseph's friendship it is there for life. He is loyal, viciously defensive, and endlessly clever. Close friends and lovers will catch glimpses of a person more involved with books than people, and a biting sense of humor.
In his older age, Joseph has mellowed with time and traumatic experiences. His tongue is as sharp as ever, but he has learned empathy. A sharp sense of justice has burrowed its way into his soul, and he leaps to defend the downtrodden. He is also a decent family man and father, and had a weakness for defending children.
Despite being fae, he shows an immense hatred toward the Courts. In particular, the Wild Hunt. He believes that they make determinations on morality they are not qualified to make, and no man should be both judge and jury.
