Appearance

Joane is a young, muscular woman with long red hair and cold blue eyes. Although potentially attractive, there's a sense of aloofness in her manner that has kept suitors away, which is perfectly fine with her. When she goes around, she most typically wears her armor, so that people have begun to think of her as a warrior above everything else.

Skills and Abilities

Joane is well-trained in combat, both mounted and on foot, as well as command, strategy, and logistics. During her service with the Guard, she took every opportunity she could for glory, gaining some renown as a duelist and rider. She spent some time learning the bow, but it is not her first choice.

She has managed to be something of a great leader, or at least the beginning of one, in her time as a company commander. This experience is what she has brought over to the company and intends to forger her kingdom with. Well, that and her sword.

Personality

Few know the depths of Joane's ambition, for she keeps it cunningly concealed beneath a facade of indolence and boredom, yet a fascination with old stories and adventures. Part of this is of course true. It was why she had initially signed onto the Anirin Guard as soon as she was old enough.

Part of it is an act to keep potential threats away from herself. She has plans, big plans, and she intends to approach them intelligently, through whatever means she needs. Having been trained in infantry and cavalry, she has the capacity to be a great commander of troops, but even being a commander in the Aniran guard is too small for her.

Biography & Lore

The Steelheart Clan is an old, albeit minor, house within Vel Anir. Legends say they once ruled a kingdom of their own on the marches of the steppes and the Allir Reach, just across the river. But, that was long ago, and the steppe raiders had raided one too many times, driving the Steelhearts to the safety of Vel Anir with what wealth they could carry.

That was centuries ago and many Steelhearts wrote it off as an old legend to cover the fact that their initial wealth was likely made in seaborn raids. Joane was always fascinated by the story and it set a spark in her soul that she intended to accomplish. She would reclaim that kingdom. Or, in all reality, carve it from the steppe-lands. So, she had studied strategy, tactics, logistics, and began setting aside gold for the attempt.

But even as wealthy as her family was, it wasn't enough for her plans. She needed an enormous amount of gold to raise the troops to secure the land, convince others to settle there, and to erect fortifications. She needed loyal followers, warriors, and reputation to draw them to her.

So, she joined the Guard, purchasing a commission, and serving as a commander of a small company of pikemen, archers, and what other minor nobles would swear fealty to her in exchange for loot and glory as her cavalry force and officers.

Until at last, she received a charter from the city to establish her own mercenary company with the authority to enforce laws, collect payment, and serve whoever would pay her best. Recruiting from Guard veterans and adventurous youths both, she set off in search of contracts.
