Gem Nearlight has the fairly typical appearance of a tunnel dwarf: short, stout (though, not quite as stout as dwarves that aren't of the tunnel dwarf variety), light and thin hair, light-colored eyes, and very pale skin. She wears a finely tailored, undyed (gray) spidersilk tunic with a dagger holstered at her hip and an explorer's pack strapped to her back, spidersilk gloves, and spidersilk boots. Her hair is styled into braided pigtails, she has golden earrings on each ear, she has a gap-toothed easygoing smile, and walks in a confident, smooth stride.

Treasure-Hunting. Gem's natural curiosity, sense of adventure, and simple charm lends itself well to the life of a treasure hunter. Somehow, she always seems to find a long-lost map, pick up on rumors, or discover ancient sites of mystery and wonder. A life in the underground tunnels has taught her well how to navigate and maneuver in tight, dark spaces. Additionally, experience has helped her watch out for and possibly disarm ancient traps.

Insight. Gem's folksy ways, wide-eyed idealism, and easy-going demeanor more often than not puts people at ease but also just as often lends itself well to people singling her out as a possible "easy" mark. Unfortunately for them, this is a mistake. Gem is not at all as naive as she appears and is as shrewd and sharp as any merchant, dwarven or otherwise. Attempts to con her or steal from her will not go unnoticed and probably earn one a scowl, a few remarks regarding the incompetence of liars and thieves, and a long-winded, ranting lecture that will make one wish they had been stabbed for their transgression instead.

Gem has a laid-back, easygoing nature. She prefers to go along with the flow of life rather than attempting to fight against it or control its course.
