Appearance
-
Unlike many other barbers, Flint dresses as though he’s not bound to get blood on himself. The man often wears immaculate white shirts under light vests or waistcoats, often opting to tuck his breeches into his boots. With a reputation to upkeep, he keeps his hair styled well, the back and sides cut short, lightly fading into the thicker mop atop his head, which is often swept from left to right. The man has a striking gaze, one eyebrow often raising a fraction when he is fully engaged with a conversation. His face lacks facial scars, and is usually trimmed to a stubble. His jaw is sharply defined
He is wiry in frame, with long limbs and broad shoulders. The man is moderately built, and by no means a tank. He boasts some muscles in the arms and core, though his legs are paid less attention in exercise. He boasts but one scar across his lower back, received when fleeing a thief who was trying to rob him in Elbion. Flint is normally quite pale, due to light not fully reaching the city too often. However, when in the sun for days and weeks at a time, his skin takes on a warmer shade.
Skills and Abilities
-Deft hands: Once thought to be a remarkable innate skill, Flint possesses great control over his hands through magic. While it is unknown if the magic is restricted for use through his hands only, the barber has the ability to quickly and skillfully manoeveur objects between his hands, with greater finesse and speed than the average human. This is useful of course in his work as a barber, but also when countering strikes from weapons, or performing sleight-of-hand tricks. Much more difficult to accomplish, Flint is capable to having amazing reaction times and reflexes. These powers have the capacity to spread across his body, but his lack of awareness of his powers prevent their development.
-Marksmanship: Flint is decent with a bow, though excels with his use of throwing knives. This is particularly of use to him, as his swordsmanship is lacking by comparison. If things do result in getting up close to an enemy, he'd prefer to use his fists- -Brawler: Spending a stint in an illegal fighting ring, Flint is a capable boxer, aided by his magic
-Surgeon: As a barber-surgeon, Flint is capable of performing amputation and wound curing to moderate success rates
Personality
Above all, Flint is a curious person. He loves stories, both telling and hearing them, and is astounded by things that cannot be explained by man elf or dwarf alike. An open-minded individual, Flint believes each day brings the possibility of having all he knew of the world turned upside down. He’s a deep thinker, questioning anything that comes his way for the sake of understanding it as deeply as possible. This, paired with his charisma, is quite useful in his work as a barber. He can keep conversations going with clientele, seeming interesting enough to bring the customer back again in the future. Indeed, Flint is warm-hearted, but also quite sensitive. He is very trusting of people, and when this trust is betrayed, the man tends to become reclusive. He’s ambitious, but sometimes overly so, and at times can be impractical. Often Flint will be the man with the big plan, but with little means and finance for execution of said plan.
Discredit him as that may, Flint is good-natured. While he is mostly driven by his deep curiosity, Flint will sometimes go well out of his way to help someone in need, though this usually does him more bad than good. Generally he has pretty good morals, but is open to persuasion, should a good argument be presented to him.
Above all, Flint aims to live an enriched life. He wishes to travel, learn and refine his skills, to be happy. He wishes to do something good, to add to the world. Such wide aspirations can be difficult to complete, especially since Flint is prone to procrastination. This can cause him great frustration, and the man often gets restless on particularly boring stages of his daily routine. Flint is somewhat of a thrill seeker, and will turn to hearing and telling tales to sate his need for excitation. This does not always suffice, however.
The man is prone to self-doubt. A failure in battle or while questing will often set him back for some time. He can also be quick to anger. When faced with things he strongly disagrees with, he can be stubborn and opinionated.
Biography & Lore
The barber Flint is renowned across Elbion as a professional who does not leave a single cut on the head (or throat) of any of his customers. Much of this is down to the magical ability that manifested in the man when he was only ten years of age. As a boy, Flint found he could maneuver objects like coins and small tools between his fingers at remarkable speed. This was much to the dismay of his parents, from which Flint often took items and hid through sleight of hand. Such acts of delinquency developed in his early teens as Flint used to steal some of his father’s barber blades, taking them down alleys to throw at targets, impressing many of his friends.
Unfortunately Flint’s father passed of disease shortly after, forcing his family to go and live with Flint’s uncle outside Elbion. Flint missed his father, and the boy dealt with the grief by intensifying his delinquency, burning his uncle’s firewood outside their house and letting some of the animals loose ‘by mistake’. Such acts angered Flint’s uncle, justly. The man brought the boy into the woods one day, a bow in hand. His uncle handed Flint the bow, telling him that they weren’t going to go back to their cabin until Flint killed an animal. The boy had never killed anything, and this seemed a drastic step up from his usual activities. It took hours of walking through the woods, Flint missing every animal they encountered until eventually (though unintentionally) the boy was able to maim an old stag. His uncle took the bow, telling the shocked boy that he was going to start helping the family, or he’d wind up like the stag.
The experience marred the boy significantly, and Flint slowly ceased his troublemaking, substituting it for the hunting sessions he went on with his uncle. After a while, he found he quite liked the act of tracking and hunting for food. However, as he grew older, he knew that life in the countryside was not for him, and while he valued the discipline his uncle taught him, he longed to return to Elbion. Flint always remembered how his father provided for his family, for him, regardless of his misbehavior. He wanted to do right by the man who died supporting him. So, the young man began an apprenticeship with a barber, his innate ability clearly the work of magic. Over the years Flint became infamous, his skilled hands the talk of the markets for a time. And over the years he heard stories, stories from men across the lands, of myths legends and treasures no man had seen in hundreds of years. He continues to hear and tell such stories today when cutting hair, secretly longing to become part of such a tale.
In recent times, Flint has joined the Loot Runners. In addition to that, information has arisen suggesting that there was more to his father's death than was first thought. The barber seeks to look into such information.
